Downtown Pittsfield, the 20th has arrived. Read the story, then come see how your North Street Lipton does the math. 💙
PITTSFIELD, MASS. — On the 20th of the month, a local man completed what he reverently calls “the 20-20-20” at the Lipton Market on South Street — a 20-cent coffee, a 20-cent 20-ounce soda, and 20 cents off per gallon of gas — and has declared the day “mathematically flawless.”
The man, who sources confirm had circled the date weeks in advance, spoke of the alignment with something close to awe. “Twenty, twenty, twenty. Three different things, one perfect number. You don’t get symmetry like that in nature,” he said, laying his receipt on the hood to admire it. “Coffee, soda, gas — all of it bends to the 20th. For one day, the math makes sense.”
Witnesses report the man executed the trifecta “in a specific order he declined to explain,” described the Mountain Dew as “the keystone of the whole structure,” and stood a moment at the pump “just appreciating it.” He is said to have called the 20th “the one day the universe balances the books” and every other day of the month “an approximation.”
Asked whether he was perhaps overstating the significance of a coffee, a soda, and some gas, the man said that question “had no respect for numbers,” confirmed he had already photographed the receipt “for the records,” and noted that true value “announces itself quietly, on the 20th.” He then saluted the pump and drove off, perfectly balanced.
The 20th could not be reached for comment. It comes but once a month, which is the point.
