Remember high school when we were all hopeful for the future and trying to do productive stuff like make electric carts from scrap? I almost forget what that feeling’s like...

COLUMBUS, OH—Saying that he’s “gonna have to keep an eye on that one,” Ohio State University resident assistant Scott Joachim confirmed Wednesday that he is “not getting a good vibe” from the freshman student on his floor who wears a cloak at all times. “It’s hard enough being a fres...

Correction on the previous post: if I’m being totally honest here, this project was dead before it started. It was a fluke and we should have known not to start it because, well, it’s Plum. When have you ever heard anything like this ever come out of Plum?

So apparently our last post was from 2014. The freshmen and sophomores who started this project have since graduated. None of us have any ideas what’s going on anymore. This project is probably dead at this point, but who knows.

Here are some pictures of our computer drawings in solid works compared to our kart parts! Our team has worked really hard at making our trike parts perfect, so take a look at some drawings we are extremely proud of!

We are back from Thanksgiving break and ready to get rolling again with our kart. Our teacher Mr. Griffith has contacted Thunderstuck for some feedback and advice for our battery pack. Hopefully they will increase our knowledge on the kart to help us further our completion of it. Another group of kids are contacting Micheal Podobnik to talk to him about donations (and thank him for his previous donations). We will keep you updated on our amazing electric reverse trike!

The Plum Engineering team is excited to announce that our electric reverse trike is making progress. We have students studiously researching how to manufacture and improve our kart. A major priority for the students is getting involved in doing drawings in a computer program called solidworks. This way we can enhance the design to really dive into the assembling of the kart. Another priority is the parts we need includes a swing arm assembly from a pit bike (street tire). Students are really getting into the progress of figuring out how to get this trike up and running! Two of the female students are doing extensive research on how to assemble our battery pack made with RYOBI batteries. A major focus for the team is to do as much as possible to expand our engineering experience, so we are encouraging comments of ideas and suggestions. In fact, we have contacted a man who had a similar project dealing with a similar battery pack for his guidance. The link to the similar project is http://www.instructables.com/id/Ryobi-Battery-Power-Source/step3/Button-It-Up/ We would like to once again mention that donations of parts would really progress our project and would be much appreciated. Please comment below with suggestions or more donation details!

The batteries fit nicely into a small nylon bag, that gets strapped to the back of the bike. Each battery gets charged individually on a standard Ryo...

We are looking into the design of our battery pack. We will post some photos of our progress soon, thanks again to RYOBI for donating those batteries and the chargers. We are developing the the pipework to attach the front and back end to have our frame in one piece.
