Heading out on the forest roads this holiday weekend?

Those roads throw rocks.

Every chip in your paint is a spot where moisture can get to bare metal, and once winter arrives that small chip turns into rust. The fix now is simple. The fix in spring is bodywork.

🎨 Behind the scenes: the room where your color gets made.

Most people never see this part of the shop, but it's where a huge amount of the quality happens.

This is our paint mixing room. Every one of those containers on the wall is a toner, and your vehicle's color doesn't come premixed in a can. It gets built right here, one component at a time, weighed on a digital scale down to the gram.

Here's the part most folks don't realize: your paint code is a starting point, not a finish line. Two vehicles with the identical factory code can look different after a few years on the road. Sun exposure, oxidation, elevation, and time all shift the color. So matching a repair means accounting for the vehicle in front of us, not just the number on the door jamb.

That's why the tinting guides are on the wall. That's why the scale matters. And that's why our team is PPG certified, working with the Envirobase waterborne system to get your finish right.

Get it wrong and you see it in every parking lot, that one panel that's just slightly off. Get it right and you can't tell anything ever happened.

🏅 What does I-CAR Gold Class actually mean for you?

You may have seen the badge on our marketing, but here's what's actually behind it.

I-CAR Gold Class is the highest training recognition in the collision repair industry, and only a small percentage of shops in the country hold it. To earn it, a shop has to prove that its technicians are trained in the specific roles they perform, and then keep that training current year after year. It isn't a one-time certificate you hang on the wall. It's an ongoing commitment.

Why that matters to you:

🔩 Today's vehicles are complicated. High-strength steels, aluminum panels, adhesives, sensors, and advanced driver assistance systems all have specific repair procedures. Guessing isn't an option.

📌 Save this post. You'll be glad you did.

Nobody plans on getting in an accident. But if it happens, knowing what to do in those first few minutes makes everything that follows a whole lot easier.

1️⃣ Check for injuries first. People before property, always. If anyone is hurt, call 911 immediately.

2️⃣ Get to safety. If the vehicles are drivable and you're blocking traffic, move to the shoulder or a nearby lot. Turn on your hazards.

3️⃣ Call the police. Even for a minor accident, an official report protects you later. Don't skip this one.

4️⃣ Document everything. Photos of both vehicles from all angles, license plates, the surrounding scene, road conditions, and any visible damage. Take more photos than you think you need.

5️⃣ Exchange information. Name, phone number, insurance company, policy number, driver's license, and plate number. Grab contact info from any witnesses too.

6️⃣ Don't admit fault. Be polite, be honest with the police, but leave the fault determination to the professionals. Adrenaline makes people say things they regret.

7️⃣ Notify your insurance company. The sooner you start the claim, the sooner things start moving.

8️⃣ You often have a say in where your vehicle gets repaired. Your insurance company can make a recommendation, but ask us about your options before you decide!

🚌 The buses are rolling again!

It's back to school week in the White Mountains. Backpacks are packed, new shoes are laced up, and somewhere out there a parent is quietly celebrating. 😄

From all of us at Heck's Collision Center, we want to wish our students, teachers, bus drivers, coaches, and school staff an incredible year ahead.

To the kids: work hard, be kind, and make it a good one.
To the parents: you made it. Enjoy that first quiet morning.
To the teachers and staff: thank you for everything you pour into these kids. This community is better because of you.

And to every driver out there this week: when those red lights start flashing and the stop arm swings out, you stop. Both directions, unless there's a physical median between you. Slow down in the school zones, put the phone away, and give yourself a few extra minutes.

Living in the White Mountains means sharing the road with wildlife. 🦌

Deer and elk collisions are one of the most common causes of vehicle damage in our area, and they can happen fast. A full-grown elk can weigh over 700 pounds, and hitting one at highway speeds isn't just a fender bender, it's a serious safety event.

A few tips to stay safer on our roads:

✅ Slow down at dawn and dusk. That's when deer and elk are most active.

✅ Watch the shoulders. If you see one animal, assume more are close by. They travel in groups.

✅ Use your high beams when possible. It gives you more reaction time to spot eyes on the roadside.

✅ Don't swerve. It sounds counterintuitive, but swerving to avoid an animal often leads to worse outcomes: rollovers, head-on collisions, or leaving the road. Brake hard, stay in your lane, and stay in control.

✅ Buckle up. Every time. It matters more than you think in a wildlife collision.

If the worst happens, pull over safely, turn on your hazards, call the authorities, and document the damage for your insurance company. Then give us a call. We handle wildlife collision repairs regularly and know exactly what to look for, from obvious body damage to hidden frame and radiator issues.

👋 Meet Joe, one of the most versatile guys on the Heck's Collision team!

If there's a job that needs doing, Joe's the guy Craig turns to. With 11 years in the industry, he's built the kind of experience that only comes from putting in the reps day after day, and he's the definition of a Swiss Army knife around the shop.

A little about Joe:

🛠️ Time in the industry: 11 years and going strong. Joe is I-CAR certified as a non-structural technician and PPG paint certified, which means when your vehicle's finish needs to look factory-fresh again, it's in expert hands.

🎨 What he does day to day: A little bit of everything. Joe handles prep and paint, tear downs and reassemblies, and jumps in on light repair whenever the shop needs an extra set of hands. He's the guy who keeps things moving.

🍗 Outside the shop: Joe's all about the good stuff, relaxing with friends and family, hitting the gym, and getting down on the grill. Ask him about a good ribeye, we dare you.

🚗 Favorite car: 1967 Shelby GT500. A true American classic. Man's got taste.

Oh, and one more thing: Joe's a bit of a prankster. So if you're stopping by the shop and something seems slightly off, well, that might be Joe.
