We wish to address the concerns and misleading information being spread to manipulate voters' decisions in a postcard sent out to the community and on several posts throughout Facebook.
VOTE. This vote is for the rezoning of 6.2 acres to hold a high-end RV Resort. It will NOT automatically allow us to expand on to our remaining acreage. Any expansion would require us to follow the same process of rezoning and would be subject to public input. The use of the number 250 is a scare tactic. The RV Resort will be seasonal and offer short-term stays. (No permanent residence)
TRAFFIC. Yes, Pinetop-Lakeside experience a significant increase in traffic during the summer season and holidays. This will always be an element of challenge for any tourism destination. We have gone above and beyond any requirements to make sure we develop this resort so that we will have as little impact on traffic as possible. We will be putting in a deceleration lane, even though it was not required by ADOT. The RVs are already up here. Our goal is to attract them to stay in town versus dispersed camping or an RV park in another town. By doing this, the town will also feel a positive impact (tax revenue) from traffic that will exist with or without us. The Town of Pinetop-Lakeside brands itself as “ Arizona’s Recreation Destination” and allocates funds towards tourism marketing. The economy of this town is dependent on tourism. With tourism comes traffic.
FIRE EVACUATION. The safety of our customers and community will always be a priority. The threat of fire is something that we will take very seriously, both in the management of our land and in the event of an evacuation.
PLANNING ISSUES. The Mayor of Pinetop-Lakeside and several council members have spoken to this accusation. They have explained in detail how this rezoning does NOT violate anything in the General Plan.
NEIGHBORHOOD. Trespassing, noise, and security are just as much a concern for us with our customers. Many people are trying to paint our RV resort as a crime-ridden, low-end, trailer park. That couldn’t be further from the truth of what we will be. Our customers want to experience and enjoy nature, not destroy it. They want to vacation with their children and feel safe. We want to provide that safe experience for them. It is also important to us to be a good community member. Thus, we will have a strong focus on visitor education for experiencing this wonderful community with respect towards those who live here. To portray us as a threat to nearby children at camp is a scare tactic.
We understand that new development creates concern. We are happy to answer questions and have conversations with community members. We sincerely hope that people make their decision based on facts and not misinformation or scare tactics.
