Next up will be some lifter bushings for larger Diameter BAM's then it will go down the road to TKM for a bigger cam tunnel.

LS7 heads in for the 'fix' 🫨

New BTR powdered metal guides, Ferrea hollow stem steel intake valves, re-ground factory exhaust valves, and a nice valve job on our Sunnen VGS-20 followed by a .003" deckin' on the Rottler F65.

Another small victory today. This is probably common knowledge... but you dont know what you dont know, lol! Thankful for good friends in the industry who are willing to share simple tricks! After some threads failed in these heads, we decided to install helicoils in them all.

What you see is a modified 7/16" to 3/8" stud (3/8" threads removed) screwed into a rocker arm bolt hole of a head on our Sunnen seat and guide machine. This stud is used to locate the angle of the cylinder head and the spindle of the machine, just as would be done with the pilot when setting up for a valve job.

This makes for a pretty simple and quick setup. There's no time spent indicating the head in or figuring out the best way to clamp it down like on a Bridgeport... its on a machine designed to machine heads, lol.

Once the floating head / spindle is centered on the stud, just lock it down by releasing the air lock pedal and run it in reverse to remove the stud. Then while on location just chuck up the drill and tap for perfectly located threads. 🙂

At first glance, this little LT4 build we are about to wrap up for a customer doesnt look like much. Its a simple 383 with some pretty good parts. If everything goes right, Id expect it to make around 475 rwhp through a manual. By today's standards, that aint much.... but there's something special about the 'ol LT's. They always just seem to run better than the dyno sheet says they should... or maybe thats just my imagination.

But when I look at this engine, I see the very first LT I ever built for my friend Josh Burkhart... because those Lloyd Elliott Trick Flow heads were on it. That project fought us tooth and nail, but we stuck with it. That was around 2004. And I see the Grubbworm, because we ran 8.0 at 180 mph with a very basic 357" build using this 24x kit. But before that, we maintained the car for many years and went through a few major builds for the previous owner, Randy 'Grubb' 🐛

Ive got a collection of cool old parts that ive hung onto for years for a potential, future street car build that reminds me of my glory days, lol. Parts that kinda define where I've been. But once in a while someone comes along that just needs them more than I do.

You see, JA Competition may be just getting started.... but I've been doing this for about 2.5 decades now. More than the parts, the cars, and the builds are the people.

The pics of the cars mentioned start side by side at one of our open houses probably 10 years ago and progress to how they look today. The teal car is now black and has a different owner and great friend... but it was 'JA' powered back then and is still 'JA' powered today. 💪
