Motorcycles are a ton of fun, but can be extremely dangerous if not maintained properly. Be honest with yourself, if you don't have the ability, time, and equipment to do it correctly, take it to someone that does.

Today's fun.

This intermittent no spark haunted me until I figured out that the screw hole for the point adjuster was stripped and allowing the points to come in and out of adjustment.

So the answer was to disassemble it and install a little 8-32 helicoil.

This is the kind of "Custom" work that keeps me busy. Oil tank fittings that never had a chance of sealing on a chopper "built" by someone that should have found a different hobby.
But on a side note, notice the "custom" oil tank mounts that allowed the tank to move.

In all seriousness, I completely understand wanting to work on your junk yourself for the experience or to save the coin. But, with that being said, motorcycles are deadly and should be taken seriously. This is a prime example. Oil leaking all over the rear tire could have ended badly. If your abilities are at this level, work the overtime and pay someone with the skill and equipment.
