PSA: A major issue we have been seeing lately is in the 6.7l Ford Powerstroke engines. The fuel injection pump known as the cp4 are prone to failures resulting in a complete fuel system replacement. Replacing a fuel system in a 6.7 Powerstroke generally runs about $10,000. Thankfully there are ways to prevent this problem. The first being a S&S disaster prevention kit which usually retails for around $400-$500. How this kit works is if your cp4 pump does fail it actually reroutes all of the metal particles through a very fine fuel filter before it ruins the rest of the fuel system. The second solution is to actually replace the cp4 pump with a pump sold by S&S as well called the DCR pump. These kits cost around $1990 and completely eliminate the cp4 pump failure problem. We have been seeing a ton of these lately…..if you own a 6.7 Cummins I would suggest looking into the grid heater failure. Grid heater failures can cause up to $20,000 in damages. Banks sells a great solution kit for this and we have been doing them weekly. If you look at the picture of the bore scope this is the grid heater nut setting in an intake runner getting ready to destroy this engine. This customer in particular was very lucky.
