🚧 Pothole Season is Here! Keep Your Ride Smooth with These 3 Tips 🚗💨

With roadwork and potholes popping up all over PA, here’s how to protect your car:

1️⃣ Slow Down: Potholes can be sneaky! Reduce your speed when you spot a rough patch to minimize impact on your tires and suspension.

2️⃣ Check Your Alignment: Hitting a pothole hard? It could throw your car’s alignment off, leading to uneven tire wear. Get it checked out soon! (We don't do alignments, but can give you a good referral.)

3️⃣ Inspect Your Tires: After hitting a bump, inspect your tires for any visible damage or bulges. The quicker you catch it, the less you’ll spend fixing it!

Stay safe and pothole-ready! If you think your car’s taken a hit, give us a call at John's Automotive Repair! 🛠️

🚗 Snow’s gone (kind of) but the salt is still working overtime.

After snowstorms and road treatments, your car picks up salt and de-icers that cling underneath—especially on the undercarriage, brakes, and suspension areas. A proper wash (including an undercarriage rinse) is a simple step that supports preventive maintenance.

Why it matters (even beyond “looks”):
✅ Salt buildup can speed up rust and corrosion on components like brake lines, fuel lines, fasteners, and suspension parts
✅ It can contribute to premature wear on brakes and moving parts
✅ It can turn small issues into bigger repairs over time

We don’t do body work, but we 𝙙𝙤 service what keeps your car safe and running right—brakes, steering/suspension, fluids, batteries, and more. Washing after storms helps protect the systems you rely on.

𝗤𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗶𝗽: Choose a wash that includes an undercarriage spray, especially after heavy snow or when roads have been treated.

If you’re hearing squeaks, grinding, or noticing a pull while braking after winter weather, give us a call—we’ll take a look.

Battery + wipers (and the “can’t see” problem)

Winter in Philly isn’t just snow — it’s salt spray + sleet + gloomy rain. If you can’t see, you can’t drive safely.

🔋 Battery reality check:
Cold weather is brutal on batteries — below 32°F, a battery can lose a big chunk of its starting power, and weak batteries often show up in winter. And we're in for a stretch of brutally cold days. Keep those batteries charged!

Signs you shouldn’t ignore: slow cranking, dim lights, random warning lights, or it’s 3+ years old (get it tested).

🌧️ Wipers + washer fluid:
If your wipers streak or chatter, they’re not doing their job — and winter road grime makes that 10x worse. PennDOT specifically calls out wipers/defroster as key winter prep.

Want peace of mind? Ask us for a quick battery + visibility check (battery test, wipers, washer fluid, defroster).

WINTER STORM PSA!
There's a lot of chatter about a potential BIG storm this weekend and wether those weather people are right or wrong, it doesn't hurt to take the time the next few days to be sure your vehicle is Snow Ready.

Philly winter roads are messy: snow → slush → rain → surprise ice. Your tires are the #1 safety feature when it’s slick.

✅ Quick tire checks that actually matter:

Tread depth: If you’re below 4/32”, traction in wet/snow drops fast. (A lot of “fine” tires aren’t fine in winter.)

Pressure: Cold temps can drop tire pressure about 1 psi for every 10°F — which hurts grip and braking. Check it when temps swing.

Uneven wear / pulling: If your car pulls or the steering wheel isn’t straight, don’t ignore it — that can mean alignment issues (hello, potholes).

🚗 If your TPMS light is on, your tread is low, or you’re sliding more than usual — come in for a quick tire check. It’s cheaper than a tow (and way less stressful).

Need our help? We're here for you. Drive safely Friends!
