We get a little break in the heat this week, but your car is still HOT!

Resharing some of our best tips to keep your car and yourself cool and safe in summer!

☀️ Too Hot to Handle: 5 Ways to Keep Your Car (and Yourself) Cool While Driving ☀️

At John’s Automotive Repair, we know you can’t avoid the heat—but you can outsmart it. Here are 5 SIMPLE TRICKS to keep your car cooler and more comfortable when temps are over 100°:

❄️ 1. Park in the Shade or Face East
Whether it's under a tree, in a garage, or just avoiding the afternoon sun, shade matters. If shade's scarce, park so your front windshield faces away from the sun—it heats up the fastest.

❄️ 2. Use a Sunshade or Reflector
Those fold-out “windshield thingies”? They work. A reflective sunshade can lower the cabin temp by 15° or more and protect your dashboard and seats from cracking or fading.

❄️ 3. Crack the Windows (Just a Bit)
Leave your windows open half an inch when parked (if safe). It helps hot air escape so your car isn’t an oven when you get back in. Bonus: rain can’t sneak in with such a small opening.

❄️ 4. Blast Out the Hot Air First
Before turning on the A/C, open all windows and doors for a minute to vent the trapped heat. Then close up, set the A/C to recirculate, and aim vents low—cold air sinks, hot air rises.

❄️ 5. Cover Your Steering Wheel & Seats
Use a hand towel or cheap fabric cover on your wheel and leather/vinyl seats to avoid scorched hands and legs. Or keep a lightweight blanket in the car—your thighs will thank you.

💡 PRO TIP from John’s Auto: If your A/C is slow to cool or starts blowing warm, don’t wait—that’s a warning sign. We can check refrigerant levels and make sure it’s running efficiently before you’re stuck in gridlock with a heatwave in your lap.

Before you head to the shore, be sure your car is ready to get you there safely! 🌞 Our Annual Summer Car Care Tips will help!

Stay safe and comfortable, maximize your car’s performance, and reduce your risk of being stranded by having the following systems or components checked out:

🟥 BELTS AND HOSES. Early signs of wear and tear may be greatly accelerated by summer weather, resulting in fraying, cracking, loosening, and brittleness. In turn, your electrical, cooling, power steering, and air conditioning systems will suffer.

🟥 AIR FILTER. A dirty, clogged filter can result in wasted gas and loss of engine power

🟥 AIR CONDITIONING. Uncontrolled sweating while riding in a car is generally not desirable. We’ll check system pressure, air flow, and determine if the system needs to be cleaned, has a leak, and/or needs a recharge.

🟥 FLUID LEVELS. This includes brake, transmission, power-steering, and wiper fluid. Have your oil and filter changed as recommended as well.

🟥 WIPER BLADES. Defective wiper blades can compromise vision, jeopardizing your safety.

🟥 TIRES. We’ll check your tire pressure, tread depth, and wear patterns; inspect your tires for bulges and other defects; and rotate the tires if due.

🟥 COOLING SYSTEM. A flush and refill may be advisable in some situations.

🟥 BATTERY. We’ll test it and make sure it’s clean and corrosion-free.

Keep your vehicle longer, save hard-earned money, and command a higher resale price.

🚧 Pothole Season is Here! Keep Your Ride Smooth with These 3 Tips 🚗💨

With roadwork and potholes popping up all over PA, here’s how to protect your car:

1️⃣ Slow Down: Potholes can be sneaky! Reduce your speed when you spot a rough patch to minimize impact on your tires and suspension.

2️⃣ Check Your Alignment: Hitting a pothole hard? It could throw your car’s alignment off, leading to uneven tire wear. Get it checked out soon! (We don't do alignments, but can give you a good referral.)

3️⃣ Inspect Your Tires: After hitting a bump, inspect your tires for any visible damage or bulges. The quicker you catch it, the less you’ll spend fixing it!

Stay safe and pothole-ready! If you think your car’s taken a hit, give us a call at John's Automotive Repair! 🛠️
