MUSKY MONDAY MINUTE for October 12–18 …TIME TO HUNT FOR A BIG ONE!
Cooler weather (coming), falling water temperatures, and changing w**d conditions can put big muskies on the move. It’s time to cover water, pay attention to baitfish, and make every cast count!
MUSKY — THE MAIN EVENT
Focus on the remaining green w**ds, inside turns, points, rock bars, and w**d edges that drop toward deeper water. Don’t overlook areas where shallow feeding opportunities meet nearby deep-water access.
LURES…
• Bucktails and smaller-profile blades when fish are active.
• Glide baits, jerkbaits, and crankbaits to work remaining w**d edges and breaks.
• Large rubber baits when targeting deeper structure.
• Live Smokey’s suckers!
🌤️ WHEN TO GO (Nice passing fronts forecast for this week.)
Give early mornings, late afternoons, overcast skies, and windy shorelines extra attention. A change in weather can trigger a feeding window, but don’t abandon a productive area just because the fish aren’t cooperating immediately.
DON’T FORGET THE OTHER SPECIES!
• WALLEYE: Check deeper breaks, rock transitions, and remaining w**d edges. Try jigs with minnows or slip-bobber presentations.
• BASS: Target the last healthy w**ds, rocky areas, and deeper transitions with slower-moving plastics.
• NORTHERN PIKE: Work remaining green w**ds with spinnerbaits, spoons, and jerkbaits.
• PANFISH: Look for crappies along deeper w**d edges and perch near transitions to softer-bottom areas.
As we always point out: finish every Musky cast with a deliberate figure-eight, and keep your camera, measuring board, and release tools ready.
