HOW LONG CAN YOU IGNORE AN OIL LEAK?

We hear it all the time:

“It’s just a little leak.”

“I only have to add oil every once in a while.”

“It’s been leaking for months and it’s still running fine.”

The problem is, an oil leak doesn’t always stay a small problem.

Your engine depends on the right amount of oil to properly lubricate bearings, pistons, camshafts, lifters, timing components, and other internal parts. As the oil level drops, you can eventually end up with inadequate lubrication and expensive internal engine damage.

WHAT CAN HAPPEN IF YOU IGNORE IT?

Low Oil Level
A leak can slowly lower your oil level between oil changes. If it gets low enough, serious engine damage can occur.

Oil on Other Components
Depending on where the leak is located, oil can get onto belts, hoses, wiring, exhaust components, or other parts where it doesn't belong.

Small Leak → Bigger Leak
A worn seal, gasket, or component may only leak a few drops at first. Over time, that leak can become much worse.

More Expensive Repairs
What starts as a leaking gasket or seal can eventually turn into a much bigger repair if the engine is allowed to run low on oil.

SO, HOW LONG CAN YOU IGNORE IT?

Honestly? Not very long.

If you're seeing oil spots under your vehicle, smelling burning oil, finding fresh oil around the engine, or regularly adding oil between oil changes, it's time to have it checked out.

WE CAN HELP

At Piston Revolutions LLC, we can help find the source of the leak and get it repaired.

Our shop can diagnose leaks and handle everything from gaskets and seals to larger oil leak repairs, depending on what your vehicle needs.

We'll identify where the oil is coming from, explain what needs to be repaired, and get you back on the road.

Don't just keep adding oil and hope for the best. Find the leak before it finds your wallet.

6.7 POWERSTROKE CRANKCASE VENT DELETE — WHAT’S THE POINT?

If you own a 2011–2016 6.7L Power Stroke, you may have heard about a crankcase vent (CCV) delete.

The factory CCV system routes crankcase vapors back into the engine’s intake system. Over time, this can contribute to oil residue and buildup throughout the intake system.

A CCV system upgrade or reroute can help:

• Reduce oil mist entering the intake
• Keep the intake system cleaner
• Reduce oily residue around the turbo and intake components
• Provide a cleaner crankcase ventilation setup

Thinking about doing a CCV delete on your 6.7 Power Stroke?

Bring it to Piston Revolutions and let us help you determine the right setup for your truck.

Brake Problems: Don't Wait Until You Can't Stop

Brake problems don't always give you a lot of warning. Catching them early can help prevent bigger repairs and, more importantly, keep you and everyone else on the road safe.

Some common warning signs include:

• Squeaking, grinding, or unusual brake noises
• Vehicle pulling to one side when braking
• Soft or spongy brake pedal
• Increased stopping distance
• Brake pedal vibration or pulsation
• Uneven brake wear
• Air pressure problems on heavy-duty vehicles
• Brake warning lights or other warning indicators

For trucks and trailers, brake issues can quickly become a serious safety concern. Worn components, air leaks, sticking brakes, and other problems can affect how your vehicle stops.

If something doesn't feel right when you hit the brakes, don't ignore it.

At Piston Revolutions, we can inspect, diagnose, and repair brake system problems on automobiles, trucks, and trailers.

Don't wait for a brake problem to become a roadside problem. Give us a call and let us get you safely back on the road.

DIESEL RUNAWAY: When Your Engine Won't Shut Down

A diesel runaway is a serious situation where the engine begins running on its own fuel source and can continue gaining RPM even after the key is turned off.

Some warning signs can include:

• Engine suddenly revving uncontrollably
• RPMs climbing without pressing the accelerator
• Thick smoke from the exhaust
• Engine won't shut off normally
• Sudden and extreme increase in engine speed

A runaway can cause severe engine damage — and in extreme cases, complete engine failure.

If you suspect a diesel runaway, stay clear of the engine and moving parts. Do not put yourself in danger trying to stop it.

The best way to deal with a runaway is to prevent the conditions that can cause one. Turbocharger issues, excessive oil entering the intake, and other engine problems can contribute to a runaway.

At Piston Revolutions, we can diagnose turbo, intake, and engine problems before they turn into a major failure.

If your diesel is showing signs of trouble, don't wait until it won't shut down. Give us a call and let us find the problem.

That Engine Tick Could Be More Than Just a Noise

Lifter and camshaft problems can start small, but ignoring the warning signs can lead to much more expensive engine damage.

Some common symptoms include:

• Ticking, tapping, or knocking noises from the top of the engine
• Engine misfires or runs rough
• Loss of power or poor acceleration
• Check engine light comes on
• Reduced fuel economy
• Low or inconsistent engine performance
• Noise that gets louder with engine RPM
• Excessive valve train noise, especially when cold or at idle

A failing lifter or worn camshaft can affect how the valves open and close, which can lead to poor engine performance and additional damage if left unchecked.

Hearing a ticking noise or noticing a loss of power? Don't wait until it becomes a bigger repair.

At Piston Revolutions, we can diagnose engine and valve train concerns to determine what's causing the problem and help you find the right repair.

Bring it in and let us find the problem before it finds your wallet.

Think You Have a Parasitic Draw?

If your vehicle or truck keeps coming back to a dead battery, even after replacing the battery or alternator, you may have a parasitic draw.

Some common signs include:

• Battery goes dead after sitting overnight or for a few days
• Vehicle needs frequent jump-starts
• Battery is good, but keeps losing charge
• Electrical components stay on after the vehicle is shut off
• Unexplained battery drain while the vehicle is parked

A parasitic draw happens when something continues pulling power from the battery when the vehicle should be shut down. Finding the cause isn't always as simple as replacing a battery — it takes proper electrical testing and diagnostics to locate the source.

Having this problem? Let us find it.

At Piston Revolutions, we can diagnose electrical issues and track down parasitic draws to help get your vehicle back to starting reliably.

Call us today and let us find the drain before it leaves you stranded! 309-241-9413

Is Your Diesel Turbocharger Showing Excessive In-and-Out Play?
If you’ve noticed excessive movement in your diesel turbocharger shaft, it’s worth having it checked before the problem turns into a more serious failure.
At Piston Revolutions, we don’t diagnose a turbocharger based on shaft play alone. We perform a thorough inspection and consider the complete picture, including axial and radial shaft movement, signs of wheel-to-housing contact, oil in the intake system, boost pressure, unusual turbo noises, smoke, and overall engine performance.
Some turbochargers will have a small amount of movement, so determining whether the play is actually excessive is an important part of the diagnosis.
Common signs of a potential turbocharger problem:

-Excessive in-and-out shaft movement
-Unusual whining or siren-like noises
-Loss of power or low boost
-Excessive exhaust smoke
-Increased oil consumption
-Oil entering the intake or charge-air system
-Contact between the turbo wheel and housing

Don’t wait for a turbocharger problem to become a bigger engine problem. If something doesn’t sound or feel right, let our team take a look!
