Cold Morning in Pigeon Forge? My RV Space Heater Tip

Hey folks, Michael with Vacation To Go RVs!

Yesterday it was almost 90° here in Pigeon Forge. This morning? 48°! My grandmother always said if you don't like the weather in East Tennessee, just wait a few minutes.

We travel with a space heater that has high and low settings and a thermostat. On low, ours draws around 7–8 amps, compared with about 12.5 amps for a typical 1,500-watt heater.

That's what works for us, but always consider your RV's electrical setup, other appliances on the circuit, and the heater manufacturer's instructions. A lower setting doesn't automatically make every setup safe.

Hey folks! Sharing a quick campground review of Lodge Margaritaville in Pigeon Forge, TN. We've stayed here a couple of times and enjoy the clean concrete sites, 50-amp full hookups, amenities, heated pool, daily kids' activities, and convenient trolley stop.

Quick RV tech tip from Pigeon Forge, where October temperatures are running into the 90s!

Pay attention to where your air conditioner condensate water drains. You want that water running away from your entry door, especially when using hydraulic leveling.

And when it's this hot outside, remember your AC units have their limits. A 15–20 degree temperature split is a general guideline, but extreme heat and direct sun can make it harder for your coach to stay cool.

Are You Following the 3-3-3 or 4-4-4 RV Travel Rule?

Rain in Kentucky changed our plans, so we headed down to Pigeon Forge for better weather. That's one of the benefits of RV travel — you can adjust as you go.

The popular 3-3-3 and 4-4-4 guidelines encourage you to drive 300–400 miles a day, arrive by 3 or 4 PM, and stay 3–4 nights at each stop.

I might drive 600 miles solo, but traveling with the family is a different story. A little less driving and more time enjoying the destination can make for a much better trip.

They're guidelines, not rules. Find what works for you, and don't forget to enjoy the journey!

Quick Tech Tip: Carry a Basic Tool Kit!

You don't need a full workshop to handle some of the little things that come up while RVing. I keep a basic Craftsman socket set in my flat tow car, along with a few extra tools and hand wipes.

Just recently, I snugged up an Allen bolt on a motorhome side-view mirror that kept wiggling out of adjustment. Simple fix, but only because I had the tools handy!

If you travel in an RV, having a basic tool kit along is a good idea. Diesel owners may also want to carry the proper tools for changing fuel filters.

Sometimes the best part of RV travel is slowing down.

Last night at Abide Glamping in Kentucky, we spent an hour or more together as a family. No technology, just a sunset, Matchbox cars, painting, drawing, and enjoying the evening.

That's one thing I love about traveling by motorhome. You can get out, slow down, and enjoy time together that you might otherwise miss.

Hurricane season sometimes means adjusting your travel plans. We made a few phone calls, and the campgrounds were accommodating.

Whether it's scuba diving or RVing, one thing holds true: if you're doing it fast, you're doing it wrong. Enjoy the journey, take your time, and don't chase a hurricane in a motorhome!
