With a heavy heart, I announce that Premium Auto Care is officially closed as of yesterday, August 31, 2020. Kenny and I opened the business on February 2, 1998, and later added Pell City Tire and The Machine Shop in order to offer more services to customers. For 22 years, Kenny worked tirelessly day and night to live up to the name, Premium Auto Care.

We chose that name for the business because we wanted to offer premium auto repair to every customer that pulled into the garage. Customers quickly became repeat customers and lifelong friends. I am truly grateful to everyone that returned over and over again to receive great auto repair from Kenny, our son, Josh and our staff.

Thank you again for your many years of supporting our family business and for choosing to bring your vehicles to our beloved Kenny. If you are currently in need of immediate auto repair services, one of our former employees, Willard “Tick” Cain is working at another location and his number is (205)753-3594.

Now, I covet your prayers and help as I have more work to do. I need to clean up and vacate the property as quickly as possible. If you know someone that owns an auto repair shop or is looking to open one, please let them know that we have tools, equipment, lifts and other items that need to be sold and moved. If interested, please send me a private FB message. Thank you all again, for supporting Premium Auto Care.

Sincerely,

Debra Pike

What is a Heater Core?

This component of your engine is part of the Cooling System. It looks exactly like the mini-me version of your Radiator, and is, in fact, a small radiator itself. Your heater core allows your heater and defrost to function.

What does a heater core do?

To be more specific, your heater core takes in and lets out Coolant (Radiator Fluid) through two heater hoses. It's main task is in making sure that you get plenty of warm air waves sent through your Heater and into the cabin of your vehicle so that you don't freeze on those cold winter mornings. It's also responsible for allowing your defrost to function properly, and many of the same components around the heater core and interconnected with the Air Conditioning, as they tend to work through the same pathways in your truck.

Where is the heater core located?

Your heater core is usually located behind your dashboard under the center, passenger side or center-passenger area. It will have some sort of casing or housing and is usually buried behind almost every other component behind your dashboard.

If you suspect your heater core is bad, call us at (205) 338- 9355 to schedule your inspection.👨‍🔧

Winter is coming up☃️!
It is important to have your heating system inspected by a certified mechanic, but first, let's talk about the heater core? What are the symptoms of a bad heater core? All of these are important questions to know concerning your heater because you do not want to be left in the cold without heat in your car. 🚘

1. What is a heater core?
Heater cores are responsible for extracting heat from the coolant and transferring warm air into the passenger compartment.

2. What are the symptoms of a bad heater core?
The most common indications that an automotive heater core is failing include a foggy windshield, steam coming from vents when the heater is switched on, a water surging sound inside the dashboard, a sweet-smelling aroma coming from the vents and wet carpeting on the front passenger side.

When referring to your car let's prepare for winter in the fall. It comes so quickly, right?

5 Steps to Prepare Your Car

1. Check your engine coolant and antifreeze levels.
2. Check your tire pressure and tread depth.
3. Use winter windshield wiper fluid.
4. Switch to a winter-grade oil at your next oil change.
* In general, the colder the weather, the thinner you want the oil in your engine to be.
5. Get a box full of winter supplies and keep it in your trunk!

Here’s a quick list of items you should include in that box: a flashlight, road flares, a first-aid kit, a few blankets, a change of warm clothes for the driver, a few extra pairs of gloves, a radio, a charged cell phone for 911 calls, a bag of sand (for traction), an extra ice scraper and some high-energy snacks (like nuts or jerky).

If you are not sure how to do all of these things, we are always here to help.

Coolant needs to be changed too!

Coolant needs to be flushed because it breaks down over the years and then loses the ability to serve its purpose of maintaining the optimum temperature of the engine and preventing corrosion. Dirt and rust particles are floating inside the coolant which can clog your radiator or heater core. Clogs in the radiator will cause your car to overheat. A clog in the heater core will prevent heat from getting into the car.

Here’s a rule of thumb. Factory coolant or coolant that was added to the car when it was built should be drained by 100,000 miles if not before. After 100,000 miles, it should be done every 3 years to keep your engine running at it’s best!

** DID YOU KNOW?**
🗣
Summer's heat, dust, and stop-and-go traffic will take its toll on your vehicle and a breakdown could be in your future.

The compressor is the most important component of your car's air conditioning system, so it's no surprise that it's also the most expensive part to repair or replace. Regular maintenance ensures proper refrigerant and lubrication levels, which reduces the risk of premature compressor failure.

You can lessen the odds of mechanical failure through periodic maintenance...🚗
A marginally operating system will fail in hot weather. Have you had your system examined by a qualified technician?
