🚗 SOLD... TO OURSELVES. ❤️

This SOLD post is a little different.

Our 2016 Hyundai Accent didn't go very far because we bought it from JD’s for our own daughter as she begins a new chapter in her life.

We talk a lot about trusting the vehicles we put on our lot.

Well, this is what that looks like when it's personal.

When the time came for our own daughter to need a vehicle, we were willing to purchase one directly from our own inventory and put our own child behind the wheel.

For us, that's about as meaningful an endorsement of the standards we're trying to build at JD’s as we can give.

We're parents before we're car dealers. We understand exactly what it feels like to wonder whether the vehicle you're purchasing for someone you love is one you can feel comfortable sending them down the road in.

🚘 USED CAR 101: WHAT DOES A CARFAX ACTUALLY TELL YOU?
A CARFAX report can be an incredibly useful tool when you're shopping for a used vehicle, but there's one thing we think every buyer should understand:

A CARFAX IS PART OF THE STORY, NOT THE ENTIRE STORY.

A vehicle-history report may give you information about things like:
📄 Reported accidents or damage
👤 Ownership history
🔧 Reported service records
📍 Registration history
🧾 Title information reported to CARFAX
⏱️ Reported mileage history
📢 Certain recalls and other reported events

But here's the important part:
CARFAX can only show information that was actually reported to it.
Someone could maintain a vehicle religiously in their own garage and you may see very little service history.

A repair or incident may not necessarily appear if it was never reported through a source CARFAX receives information from.

And a beautiful-looking CARFAX report still doesn't tell you exactly what the vehicle is like today.

That's why we like using several pieces of the puzzle:
📄 Review the available vehicle history
🚗 Drive the vehicle
👀 Look at its current condition
🔧 Consider recent maintenance and repairs
🧰 Have your own trusted mechanic inspect it
A vehicle-history report is a tool, not a crystal ball. 🔮🚗

🚗 SOLD! AND THIS ONE STAYED IN THE FAMILY. 💚

After a deer unfortunately decided his previous Ford Focus needed an early retirement 🦌😬, one of our family members found himself unexpectedly needing another vehicle.

And before heading to one of the big-name dealerships, he remembered we had a Focus sitting right here at JD’s.

That means a lot to us.

Family certainly doesn't have to buy from us. So when someone who knows us personally, knows how we operate, and knows the work we put into our vehicles chooses to buy from our lot anyway, we take that as one heck of a compliment.

He already knew he liked the Focus and wanted something good on gas for everyday driving, so our little green Focus found exactly the right next home.

You’ll see us use the words “road ready” when we talk about our vehicles, but what does that actually mean at JD’s?

It DOESN’T mean:
❌ “This used vehicle will never need another repair.”
❌ “Everything on it is brand new.”
❌ “We have a crystal ball that can predict what a machine will do six months from now.” 🔮😂

It means we've gotten the vehicle to a point where we're comfortable offering it for sale and putting it back on the road based on what we know about it at that time.

Depending on the vehicle, that process can include:
🔧 Inspecting its mechanical condition
🛠️ Addressing maintenance or repairs we've identified
🛞 Checking tires, brakes and other wear items
🛢️ Servicing fluids or changing the oil when needed
🚗 Driving it and getting a feel for how it performs
🧼 Cleaning and detailing it
📋 Reviewing available vehicle information and history
⚠️ Disclosing known conditions to potential buyers

But here's another important part of our process:
WE STILL ENCOURAGE YOU TO TAKE IT TO YOUR OWN MECHANIC.
We're a mechanic-owned dealership, but we don't expect you to simply take our word for it.

We have absolutely no idea.

It’s just the name that came to mind, and once you name a skeleton Fred Gotham, apparently that’s who he is.

There is, however, one small problem...

We know absolutely NOTHING about Fred.

Where is he from?
What did he do before showing up at JD’s?
Why is he climbing our sign?
How long has he been there?
Does he have outstanding warrants? 👀
Was he looking for a vehicle?
Did he apply for a job?

What series of questionable decisions led Fred Gotham to 1223 Garfield Avenue?

We could make something up ourselves...
