Fun fact: October is officially Fall Car Care Month, and honestly, we treat it like our Super Bowl.

Forty-nine years in Paris and Reno has taught us one thing: the vehicles that make it through winter without drama are the ones that got checked out in the fall, not the ones that got fixed after a breakdown on 82 in January.

This month we're running full multi-point inspections, covering tires, brakes, fluids, and the heating system that's about to become your best friend. ASE-certified, AAA-approved, and honestly just genuinely nosy about your car's health.

Nobody wakes up excited about an inspection appointment. But a five-minute walk around your car can save you an entire afternoon of one.

Texas requirements have changed more than once in the last few years, so what you remember from your last sticker might not even apply anymore. Before you head in, check your headlights, brake lights, and turn signals. Look at your tires for damage or uneven wear. Test your wipers. And if a dashboard light has been glowing quietly for weeks, now is the time to actually ask why.

We see it all the time here in Paris and Reno: a small thing found early is a quick fix. The same thing found at the counter is a delay.

Ninety-six degrees. That's not a heat wave around here, that's just a normal Tuesday in Paris come July and August.

While you were cranking the AC and grinding through the drive on 82, your engine and transmission were quietly working overtime, especially if you were towing anything at all this summer.

Heat like that doesn't clock out when the season does. It can leave coolant a little more worn, transmission fluid a little more tired, and a cooling system running closer to its limit than it was back in June.

Now that Lamar County is finally getting some relief, this is the best window all year to let us take a real look under the hood, before that hidden wear turns into a fall or winter breakdown.

The check engine light has been on for three weeks and the car still drives fine. Sound familiar? 🙋

Here's what most people don't know: that light isn't saying the car is broken. It's saying something is off, and the longer it runs that way, the more likely a simple fix turns into an expensive one.

Two things worth knowing:

💡 Steady light: Don't ignore it. It could be something minor or something growing. Either way, early diagnosis is almost always cheaper than waiting.

🚨 Flashing light: This one means pull over soon. A flashing check engine light typically signals a more urgent engine issue that needs immediate attention.

We use factory OEM scanners, not generic code readers, so we see the live data behind the code, not just the code itself. That's how we find the actual problem, not just the symptom. 🛠️

Is it on right now? Don't wait on it.

School's back in full swing. Carpool's back. Early practices are back. The car that holds all of it together, is it ready? 🎒🚗

September is when the Texas heat starts to ease up. But the damage it did to your vehicle this summer? That doesn't fix itself.

A few worth checking before the morning routine locks in:

🔋 Battery: Heat is harder on batteries than cold ever is. If yours is 3+ years old, test it before it fails at school pickup.
🌡️ Coolant: Still warm through September. An overheated engine on the way to 7am practice is nobody's morning.
💡 Warning lights: If something's been glowing all summer and you've been driving past it, this is the time.
🛞 Tire pressure: Temperature drops between late summer and fall affect PSI more than most people realize.

Your tires are wearing out right now, and you probably can't tell by looking. 👀

When your wheels are even slightly out of alignment, your tires drag instead of roll. One edge wears down while the other looks fine. By the time you can see it, you're already shopping for a new set.

The roads between Reno, Paris, and across Lamar County don't help. Every pothole, rough county road, and careless curb tap can knock your alignment further out, gradually, invisibly.
