Mileage is the number every used buyer looks at first. The maintenance records are what actually matter.

Five items worth asking about before you commit to a used vehicle: oil change history, transmission service, brake fluid replacement, coolant flushes, and timing belt or chain service.

A vehicle that has clean records on all five wasn't just driven. It was taken care of.

None of these requires a mechanic to evaluate. Just ask the seller for the records and read what's there.

Save this for the next time you're shopping for a used vehicle — anywhere.

If you live in Hugo, Idabel, Broken Bow, Antlers, Durant, or Valliant, the drive to Paris, Texas is shorter than the drive to most Oklahoma City dealerships.

A lot of buyers in southeast Oklahoma already know that. What stops them is the paperwork question.

The cross-state purchase is simpler than most people expect.

You drive home the same day on a 60-day Texas Out-of-State temporary tag, with plenty of runway for Oklahoma registration to complete.

We handle the Texas-side paperwork. And how your taxes get handled depends on whether you're financing or paying cash, which we walk you through before you sign.

One more thing worth knowing: if you're within 100 miles of Paris (which covers most of southeast Oklahoma), we'll deliver the vehicle to your home or office for free.

The full purchase can be completed remotely. No drive required.

Save this. Better yet, send it to whoever in your life keeps saying they should "probably just drive to OKC."

There's one question that protects you at every dealership you ever walk into.

“What's my out-the-door price?”

The advertised price is the vehicle. The out-the-door price is everything — vehicle, tax, title, registration, dealer fees. It's the actual number that leaves your account.

Most buyers don't ask for it. The ones who do find out very quickly which dealerships can answer cleanly and which ones can't.

Save this phrase. Use it everywhere you shop.

Your car is honest with you. Most people just stop listening.

Three sounds that point to three different systems — and three different timelines for getting them looked at.

A clunk when you turn means the suspension or steering is asking for attention.

A high-pitched whine under the hood usually means a belt or pulley is wearing out.

A new rumble from underneath that wasn't there last week is almost always the exhaust system.

None of these are “drive it til it dies” sounds. All three get cheaper to fix the sooner you catch them.

Save this. Better yet, send it to whoever in your life is the most likely to ignore a weird sound until something breaks.

Most people start car shopping by driving to a lot. The buyers who walk away happiest start at the kitchen table.

Three things to do before you ever set foot in a dealership. Get a real number on your trade. Know your out-the-door target. Know what your bank will lend you.

The whole point is to walk in with information instead of questions. It changes the entire conversation.

Save this for the next time you're shopping.

Truck or SUV. You only get one.

If you live and drive in Northeast Texas, this is the question that actually matters.

Hauling, towing, and back roads on one side.

Family seating, summer heat, and everywhere-you-go versatility on the other.

Both make sense for this region. But you only get one.

Tell us which one wins in the comments — and why. We want to settle this.

Most drivers have learned to assume the listed price isn't really the price. After enough trips to enough dealerships, that assumption gets baked in.

Upfront pricing is the dealership saying: that assumption doesn't apply here.

The price online is the price on the vehicle, which is the price on the contract.

Everyone pays the same fair price, no matter who they are or how hard they push back.

Save this for the next time you're shopping.

If you drive in northeast Texas or southeast Oklahoma, your vehicle is taking more heat damage than people up north can imagine.

100°F days. 150°F asphalt.

Long highway commutes with the AC running for an hour at a time.

By the time July hits, the strain has already been building for weeks.

Save this — and check the first comment for the full pre-summer prep walkthrough.

Most drivers don't realize how much variation there is in used inventory — even between two vehicles with the same year and similar mileage on the same lot.

The five questions on this list are what experienced buyers ask before they commit.

None of them require special tools or training. Just a few minutes and the right things to look for.

Save this for the next time you're shopping for a used vehicle — anywhere.

Most drivers in this region have wondered at some point: "Should I just go to Dallas?"

More dealerships, more inventory — it sounds like better odds.

But once you compare on a true out-the-door basis and add up the time, gas, and the long-term service hassle, the math doesn't always work the way people expect.

Save this for the next time the thought crosses your mind. Full breakdown in the first comment.
