Due to the ongoing weather difficulties, all driving sessions for today (Monday, 1/26/2026) have been cancelled.

We urge everyone to please be safe. Here are some reminders for driving in extreme winter weather:

* As a general rule, stay close to home. Don't go out unless you need to.
* Drive slowly. Decrease speed to account for lower traction on snow or ice.
* Accelerate and decelerate slowly. Stay focused to anticipate dangerous situations.
* Increase following distance six seconds. Brake early.

As we approach Christmas and the New Year, we want to remind everyone to schedule your class and driving appointments early. We have limited driving appointments available and our appointments, at this time of year, are typically booked up a month in advance.

Best Advice:
*Start the class at least 3-4 months before your planned test date.
* Schedule your driving times a 2-3 months in advance. This allows you to:
- Let coaches/extra-curricular coordinators know your dates
- Plan around work schedules
- Arrange transportation/pickup
- Avoid the stress of last-minute scheduling
- Ensure that you have the appointments your student needs

Due to the requirements of the newly passed Kentucky Senate Bill 181, since the majority of our staff are public school teachers in the McCracken district, we must require parents to sign district provided waivers if you wish to enable us to communicate with your students electronically (email, text, phone, etc). Otherwise, all communication must come through parents.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but we are committed to the safety of our students and staff and to following the laws set forth by our state. Thank you for understanding and allowing us to serve you!

Answers to your questions abt House Bill 15:

QUESTION: CAN MY 15 YEAR-OLD GET THEIR DRIVER'S PERMIT AND BEGIN DRIVER EDUCATION NOW?

Yes! Yesterday, the governor signed the bill and it went into effect immediately. Click on the link below to sign up for the details on how to sign up and get started: https://drive.ky.gov/Pages/index.aspx
Please be patient with this. They are updating the software and process to make this possible. This is an exciting transition, but also a *quick* one!

QUESTION: WHEN CAN WE START DRIVER EDUCATION CLASSES WITH YOU?

Immediately. Give us a call at 270-443-FRED (270-443-3733) or visit us at www.drivewithfred.com. We'll get you scheduled for the earliest possible classroom session. Students can attend the classroom session immediately, but they must have their permit to drive with us.

QUESTION: HOW DOES THE PROCESS WORK?

According to the Paducah DMV, you will go through the normal permitting process. As soon as you turn 15, you can begin classes with us. Once you get your permit, you can begin driving. However, in order to obtain your license, you MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:

1. You must abide by the 6 month waiting period
2. You must complete and document 60 hours of driving practice
3. You MUST BE 16 years old to get your license.

HOW DOES THIS AFFECT MY STUDENT WHO IS CURRENTLY TRAINING WITH YOU?

It doesn't. Students who already got their permit at 16 must still abide by the 6 month waiting period. They must also still complete and document the 60 hours of driving practice.

We appreciate your business and love serving the McCracken County Community. So, we wanted to pass on some information as we gear up for an amazing summer with your students!

* We still have availability for our classroom sessions on June 8th and June 15th. Sign up now to reserve your space!

* Our offices will be closed from May 26-31st.

* If you schedule your driving test on the dates May 24-31st, please contact us ASAP so we can help you schedule your final driving times as we will be unable to schedule driving times at McCracken County Courthouse on these dates.
