We are seeking an experienced, bilingual (English/Spanish) Shop Manager to lead operations and a team of skilled technicians.
Position Summary
The Shop Manager will oversee daily shop operations, supervise and develop a team of technicians and support staff (minimum 5 people), manage workflow, ensure quality repairs, maintain safety and compliance, control parts/inventory and costs, and deliver excellent customer service. Fluency in both English and Spanish is required.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise, coach and schedule a team of technicians and support staff (minimum 5 direct reports).
Assign work, monitor progress, and ensure repairs meet quality and turnaround targets.
Maintain shop productivity and efficiency: manage workflow, prioritize jobs, and coordinate with dispatch/customers.
Oversee parts ordering, inventory control and vendor relationships to minimize downtime and cost.
Enforce safety protocols, shop cleanliness, and regulatory compliance (OSHA, DOT, etc.).
Prepare and manage budgets, labor hours, and cost-control measures.
Conduct performance reviews, hire and train staff, and address personnel issues.
Communicate with customers regarding job status, estimates, and service recommendations.
Maintain accurate records and use shop management software and basic office tools (e.g., Microsoft Office).
Participate in after-hours on-call rotation as needed.
Required Qualifications
Fluent in both English and Spanish (spoken and written).
Minimum 3 yearsβ experience managing a repair shop or equivalent environment, with direct experience supervising at least 5 employees.
Strong knowledge of heavy truck/semi systems and repair processes (diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical systems, HVAC, etc.).
Proven leadership, scheduling, and team development skills.
Experience with parts procurement, inventory control, and vendor management.
Solid customer-service skills and ability to communicate technical information clearly.
Proficient with shop management software and basic computer skills.
High school diploma or GED required; technical/ASE/diesel certifications preferred.
Clean driving record; CDL helpful but not required.
Preferred Qualifications
ASE, NATEF or manufacturer certifications.
Prior experience with fleet maintenance programs and warranty processing.
Experience managing budgets and P&L responsibility.
Working Conditions
Fast-paced shop environment with exposure to noise, diesel fumes, and lifting.
Some weekends or overtime may be required; possible on-call duties.
