The Vette is almost ready for some fun at Daytona next month. Not sure if I will have time to cut out the current role cage and weld in the replacement cage kit beforehand. Need to replace that dead eye of a tail light as well. Mikey Botti and Jahaziel Arencibia got the tune squared away, plus it has a nasty crackle on decel now. Both kiddos love the crackle, definitely fire sounding. Benjamin said it sounds like a real race car now. Thank you to JMS Chip for the FuelMax that is keeping the pump voltage at a constant 18v, which is what theDeatschWerks Brushless pump wants. American MotorSports has been extremely helpful with all of the nuances, including the shenanigans of getting the remaining safety gear that I needed. The carbon wing from Faircloth Composites and splitter rods from Professional Awesome set the car off for sure. Welding the cage and building the titanium exhaust are the next big changes. A muffler is almost a necessity at this point, the car is ridiculously loud.

ATS Brackets kits on the cut block. Enough material to make a limited run until the metal supplier can deliver more raw stock. As basic as these are, I enjoy the art/challenge of machining, taking raw stock of material and transforming it to a functional component.

Finished welding in my baffled expansion tank and powder coated the top cap and main body last night. Waiting on the tank insert to arrive so everything can be assembled. Liking the look of the textured powder. Lesson learned, make the expansion tank 0.25” shorter so the fresh weld doesn’t make contact with contaminated factory weld. Despite two 3 hour off gas sessions in the oven at 450 degrees, the weld was trying to blow out with the TIG when crossing into the factory weld. MIG and ground in multiple layers to build a healthy base layer. Other than that, it looks good.

Figured while I was waiting on UPS to deliver the oversized coated cam journal ( #5 bore needed some love), I would make use of the extra aluminum I had laying around. Had to make a custom extended die for the bender due to the added depth of the box. This box was a reminder that I need to pick up the torch more often and keep up with the welds. Total added capacity is about 3.23 quarts. Going to weld in a b**g to the bottom of the tank so I can add a magnetic plug. Plus I will be able to actually drain the nasties from the bottom of the tank as well.

The pleasure of today’s journey. Relief cuts to pull the wrist pin clips. Rods are off to Calico. Pistons are off for skirt and ceramic coating. Titanium Rod joys.

The culprit/culprits have been located. Spun rod bearings 5/6, they are now fused to the crank. All other journals look next to perfect. Oil pressure dropped to 10 psi at 165 mph.

The finally install is complete including automatic door closers with an anti slam feature.
