American Airlines delayed my flight, made me miss my connection, denied me a hotel, gave me a $12 food voucher, and called the police when I asked for a manager.

I was not headed on vacation.

I was trying to get to my dying grandma.

I eventually made it, but I only got about seven and a half hours with her before she passed. The night before, when I was supposed to be there, she was still somewhat conscious.

A delayed flight is an inconvenience until those hours are the last ones you will ever get with someone.

You can rebook a flight.

You cannot get that time back.

The urge is always to jump straight into the fix.
But replacing parts before you know what actually failed gets expensive fast.

Start simple. Check power, clogs, visible damage, and what changed. Test the easiest cause first, then work your way forward.

Fix what you can. Know when to stop.

Save this before your next repair, and send it to the person who starts ordering parts before checking the basics.
