When you change gears in a manual Volkswagen car, here's what happens inside:
- You press the clutch pedal, disconnecting the engine from the transmission.
- You shift gears (e.g., from 1st to 2nd).
- You release the clutch pedal while pressing the accelerator, reconnecting the engine to the transmission at the new gear ratio.
Inside the gearbox:
- *Clutch release*: Separates engine from transmission.
- *Gear syncros*: Match speeds of gears.
- *Gear engagement*: New gear locks into place.
