Shine Team welcomes our newest craftsman Todd “Dammit Todd” Crumbaker Damn it todd Getting settled in and working on Ken Munich’s 914 Porsche. Going Outlaw Porsche style and fabricating an oil cooler ducting system that mimics Porsche spot welded construction. Tin “slip sleeve” through the chin to scoop cool air, heavily louvered floor piece to prevent unwanted road debris. 1300 CFM Spal pusher fan should do the trick!….. dig it! August 15 2006…… 20 years ago today. The Thacker and Shine team set our record at Bonneville. Two run average of 206.454 on an existing 203 record. D/BSTR. Car originally built by Kiwi Steve then Tony and I rebuilt it, upgraded a few times and went faster. That day I was inducted into the Bonneville 200 MPH CLUB by no other one but the man Art Chrisman. I couldn’t speak, too emotional. Bonneville is the place I read about in Hot Rod magazine as a kid, never thought I’d get to drive / race on that hallowed ground of my heroes. Dreams come true!….. if you pursue it with passion. Big thanks to Tony Thacker Tony Thacker my partner in crime, Ernie Ladner my father in law and crew chief. All days are good, some days are even better. Gary Hendricks “Gaz” and his 1952 Buick R45 Riv body. Paint job is a repaint in lacquer about 45 years old. 502 BBC from BluePrint Engines with a good base line tune. We’ve been dancing with the engine as she runs hot as hell. We’ve got 2 of the same engines, the other is in a 68 Chevelle. Great engines and strong! A trip to WesTech for love on the pump, get fuel numbers and timing figured out. Evan Perkins “Perky” and Troy Goldie “goldfish” are some super smart dudes!….. did I mention handsome? We’re going camping, two pillows, if you know you know, nuff said. Found little idiosyncrasies among many that add up on the big end. Through a TH-400 and probably too small a converter, we got honest 445 torque and 430+ HP at the tire! Legit. Dyno time tells all. Dropped jets and pinned the distributor curve. She went from 226 temps to 194 after hits and driving. BBC’s are hot sh*ts no matter what, this made us happy! Thanks guys at WesTech, you rule! 😘 yeah Gaz and I drove after, it’s in an industrial complex, safe, no side streets, made a short hit, 1 2 shift, tire hazzer for grins. Next stop is Pleasanton for the Nats. Golly, love this machine! Dennis Ricklefs, November 9 1943 / July 26 2026. Pin striper, painter, rad guy! Todd called about an hour ago while going through his Rolodex to find phone numbers. He asked me to let our friends know that his battle ended yesterday. 🙏 A service will be held soon, time and date TBD. My chopper helmet he did for me one afternoon at SoCal. I remember him coming into the shop, big cup of coffee, hand shaking, laughing and telling a story, turn around with a brush in his hand and lay down the cleanest, most even, perfect stripe along a 20’ car…… unbelievable talent and the sweetest man! RIP Dennis……. DR…… the doctor!

2017 was a tough track. First pass I hit a ditch at the 3 at 210 and she went around…… all cool. We did and didn’t expect that but we marched. Made a bunch of hits but dancing with the elements. Qualified second to last day. Impound. Mike Cook met us in the morning with good and bad news. Mike says good news you got our last clean track. Bad news is it’s 45’ wide….. thread the needle son, stay on the blue line. Normally it’s 90’ wide….. Bonny guys know. S**t. You use all of it as wind etc pushes you around. My focus was on point….. chase the blue line. She moved a bit but nothing too severe. Made it to the 5 and pulled chutes. I packed chutes and F’d up….. no deploy. On the static binders, turned off at the 7 which I never do. Tech called me out, my fault. I packed the chutes. Still maintaining control they allowed the record. Wayne Jesel and crew made it happen, graced to drive. For all racing Speed Week this year……. God Bless and be safe….. if it doesn’t feel right, click and kill it. Try again. Don’t want anymore friends to perish in pursuit of records. You’ll get it in time. Be smart, if you listen the machine will talk to you and tell you. Nuff said.
