Every roadside worker deserves to make it home safely.
Whether it's a deputy, firefighter, EMT, or tow operator assisting someone on the shoulder, remember to Slow Down or Move Over for stopped vehicles with flashing lights.
It's not just common courtesy. It's Wisconsin law.
MOVE OVER. SLOW DOWN. SAVE LIVES.
Today, October 17, is National Move Over Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of protecting those who work and find themselves along our roadways.
Every day, law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, tow truck operators, highway maintenance crews, and other emergency responders put themselves at risk while working alongside moving traffic to keep our communities safe.
However, roadway safety extends beyond emergency responders. Motorists experiencing vehicle breakdowns, flat tires, or other roadside emergencies are also vulnerable to passing traffic. Whether it's an emergency responder assisting at a crash scene or a family stranded along the shoulder, moving over or slowing down can save lives.
Behind every uniform is someone with family, friends, and loved ones waiting for them to come home. The same is true for every motorist stopped along the roadway.
As we recognize National Move Over Day, we also look ahead to Crash Responder Safety Week, November 2β6, which further emphasizes the importance of protecting those responding to incidents on our highways.
The Sheboygan County Sheriff's Office reminds everyone that roadway safety is a shared responsibility.
Everyone along our roadways deserves to make it home safely.
Do your part.
Move over.
Slow down.
