Your vehicle’s transmission is one of its most complex and expensive components. To keep it running smoothly, regular transmission service is essential. At Priebe’s Auto Clinic in Oklahoma City, we recommend servicing your transmission every 30,000 miles. Below you can see two photos from a transmission fluid service on a 2018 Toyota Rav4 with 40,000 miles on it. The top photo is the fluid in the vehicle cycling through the service machine. The second photo is once the service started. You can see the new fluid on the bottom going into the vehicle and the old fluid on top coming out. At 40,000 miles the fluid is already well below acceptable quality. We see this very regularly on vehicles.

Why? Because transmission fluid breaks down over time due to heat, friction, and contamination. As the fluid deteriorates, it loses its ability to properly lubricate and protect internal components. This can lead to slipping, rough shifting, or even complete transmission failure.

Servicing at 30,000 miles helps flush out old fluid, remove metal particles, and prevent costly damage. It also gives our technicians a chance to spot early warning signs before they turn into major repairs. Some manufacturers may suggest longer intervals, but more frequent service means longer transmission life—especially in Oklahoma’s extreme weather.

Whether you drive a sedan, truck, or SUV, protecting your transmission starts with proper maintenance. Don’t wait until it’s too late—schedule your transmission service with Priebe’s Auto Clinic & Tire Center today.

How Often Should the Fluids in My Car Be Changed? 🚗💧Your car’s fluids are like its lifeblood—without clean, fresh fluids, your vehicle won’t run as it should. Just as you wouldn’t go years without changing your oil, the rest of your car’s fluids also need regular maintenance. But how often should they be changed?

At Priebe’s Auto Clinic & Tire Center in Oklahoma City, we recommend the following fluid change schedule to keep your vehicle in top shape:

✅ Transmission Fluid – Every 30,000 miles ✅ Coolant, Power Steering, Brake, and Differential Fluids – Every 50,000 miles ✅ Engine Oil – Follow your vehicle’s manual (typically every 5,000–7,500 miles)

Why Regular Fluid Changes Matter
Neglecting fluid changes can lead to: ⚠️ Overheating: Old coolant loses effectiveness, causing your engine to run too hot. ⚠️ Hard Shifting or Transmission Slipping: Dirty transmission fluid can cause major (and expensive) issues. ⚠️ Weakened Brakes: Old brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, reducing stopping power. ⚠️ Power Steering Problems: Contaminated fluid makes turning harder and can damage the system.

How Do I Know When It’s Time?
Besides mileage, keep an eye out for: 🔧 Leaks under your vehicle 🔧 Strange noises when shifting or turning 🔧 A burning smell from the engine or transmission 🔧 Dark, dirty, or low fluid levels

Below is a photo of a transmission service. The dark deteriorated fluid is on the bottom and the new fluid on top is flowing into the vehicle.

My Car Slid Into a Curb. Now What?!?!

Accidents happen, and sliding into a curb can be more serious than it seems. Even at low speeds, hitting a curb can harm your car's suspension, tires, and alignment. Understanding these issues can help you keep your vehicle safe and reliable.

Suspension Damage

Your car's suspension system includes parts like control arms, struts, and tie rods. These components work together to ensure a smooth ride. When you hit a curb, the impact can bend or break these parts. For example, control arms might bend, and tie rods could get damaged. Such damage can make your car handle poorly and may lead to unsafe driving conditions.

Tire Damage

Tires are designed to handle regular road conditions, but a sudden impact with a curb can cause various issues:

Sidewall Bulges or Blisters: The force can cause the tire's inner layers to separate, leading to visible bulges.

Tread Separation: The impact might damage the bond between the tire's layers, causing parts of the tread to separate.

Punctures: Sharp edges on the curb can pierce the tire, leading to air loss.

Driving on damaged tires is risky. It's essential to inspect them after any impact and replace them if necessary.

Alignment Issues

Wheel alignment ensures your car drives straight and handles properly. Hitting a curb can knock your wheels out of alignment, leading to:

Steering Wheel Off-Center: You might notice the steering wheel isn't centered when driving straight.

Vehicle Pulling to One Side: The car may drift left or right without steering input.

Uneven Tire Wear: Misalignment causes tires to wear unevenly, reducing their lifespan.

If you experience any of these signs, it's crucial to have your alignment checked and corrected.

What Should You Do Next?

Inspect Your Vehicle: After hitting a curb, check your tires and wheels for visible damage.

Monitor Driving Behavior: Pay attention to any changes in handling, steering, or unusual noises.

Seek Professional Assessment: Even if everything seems fine, have a trusted mechanic inspect your suspension and alignment. Hidden damage can worsen over time.

At Priebe's Auto Clinic and Tire Center, we're here to help. Our experienced technicians can assess and repair any damage from curb impacts, ensuring your car is safe to drive. Contact us at 405-523-2172 or visit our website at PACOKC.COM to schedule an appointment.

Why Aren't My Headlights Working?

The Headlights on your car are one of the most important pieces of safety equipment on your car. They enable you to drive after dark and make your vehicle more visible during the day. When a Headlight is out it not only can be dangerous, you may also get a citation. Nobody wants that. The most common reason for Headlight Failure is a Faulty Headlight Bulb. Headlight bulbs use a tiny filament to create a whole lot of light. When one of the filaments gets too hot it can burn up and cause the bulb to fail. Many new Vehicles use HID (high-intensity discharge) headlights. These are brighter than normal headlights, but come with their own problems. We see HID ballasts go bad fairly often. This is the part that sends voltage to the light and regulates the current. If this part fails the lights will not work. The third most common failure for headlights is the Fuse. If a fuse burns out the headlight system will not get power at all. At Priebe's Auto Clinic and Tire Center we check Headlights at every visit. We also know how to repair them when they are bad. Whether you just need a bulb, or have an issue that the bulb didn't fix, we can handle it. Call 405-523-2172 or visit us at pacokc.com to schedule a reservation.

My brother, Robbie, just opened a repair shop in Stillwater. Him and I grew up in our dad's repair shop. He posted this picture of us when I was only 1 year old. I think our kids are even cuter than we are!!

I was lucky enough to literally grow up in a repair shop. I learned a lot of valuable lessons. Creepers DO NOT make good skateboards, and you can shoot a spit-wad over 50ft if you have 150psi of compressed air. I also learned a lot about hard work, character, and a few things about the automotive repair business.

The top picture is me with my brother, Shane, just after Stillwater Automotive opened in 1988. The bottom picture is our kids a couple of weeks ago at the ribbon cutting for Red Dirt Euro and EV. Who's cuter?

Is My Vehicle’s Air Conditioning Ready for Summer?
No one wants to get caught without Air Conditioning in the Oklahoma Heat. Not only is it uncomfortable but it can also be dangerous. AC Repairs are one of the most common repairs we do during the Summer Heat. The AC System in your car is made of three separate systems that work together to make sure you Cold Air is delivered into the vehicle. First the AC System itself. This is the system under the hood that includes the Compressor, Condenser, and other main AC Components. Second is the Blower Motor System that blows the air from outside the car over the Evaporator and into the cab. Third is the door system in your dash that controls the temp, recirculation, and location of the air. If all three of these systems are not working together properly the AC will not cool properly. At Priebe’s Auto Clinic and Tire Center we are Air Conditioning Experts. Our technicians have gone through AC specific training. We have the most Modern Equipment to service R1234YF or R134A Refrigerant. So, if you are having an issue with your AC or if you just want to make sure it is ready for the heat, give us a call at 405-523-2172 or Visit our Website at pacokc.com to schedule a reservation.
