Bad PDR

My last post I talked about mottling. This is exactly what I was referring to. All of these over pushes are stuck in this paint forever. You can get this flat again and still see a road map of each push. The metalic has been altered. I was able to improve this poor attempt at paintless dent repair, but sadly there is no way to fix mottled metalics. This is why doing your research and picking the best paintless dent repair technician in your area is important. You might only get one chance at a good repair.

Don't flip the flake!!!

A deep shot in a heavy metalic paint like this poses the risk of mottling. In the world of paintless dent repair this is essentially flipping the flake. Each over push or too sharp of a tool too early on in the repair can change the orientation of the metalic paint. Leaving a road map of each push, stuck there forever. Avoiding this takes great patience and the right tool choice.

Fore!!!
Watch out for those golf balls, they can cause some of the trickiest dents in paintless dent repair. Golf-ball impacts are often deep and stretched, which makes them a unique challenge even for an experienced tech.

A little combo repair action.

I believe I wouldn't be the pdr technician I am today without some of the skills I learned doing auto body repair. I was convinced by a friend to fix and paint this bedside for them, which if I'm being honest maybe i didn't take much convincing. To work on something cool and unique was all i needed. By blending my skills together, I think we got the best repair possible.

Fixing dents in the dark.

This time of year working in the dark is common and isn't as big of a deal as you may think it is. In all reality, it is easier to get a quality repair in low lighting conditions than in the glaring sun. The low lighting enables us to see our light board properly and pick out all of the imperfections more clearly. The sun also has the tendency to wash out dents. Maybe you've heard someone say, "The dents go away on a hot sunny day. " Those dents haven't disappeared. They were simply washed out by the bright sun. Does that mean it's ideal to work in the dark? No, but it isn't going to result in a poor repair. The biggest downside I find, in these scenarios are that you are fully dependent and your light board for your reflection source. I often use the natural reflection to compare or pick up on other minor flaws I may be struggling to see. In the end, quality repairs are more than possible in the dark.
