Recently, we received a call from a valued customer experiencing difficulty fueling their diesel TDI Jetta. The issue involved the fuel nozzle not fitting into the filler neck. I promptly inquired if they might have inadvertently selected the gasoline nozzle. The customer assured me it was the diesel nozzle and even provided photographic evidence. Following some discussion and the customer’s successful use of another station, I discovered that some stations are utilizing gasoline nozzles on diesel pumps, presumably due to cost savings, as the nozzle is smaller than those designed for diesel. The differing nozzle diameter prevents the safety device in the filler neck from disengaging. Therefore, if you encounter difficulties filling a diesel vehicle, ensure you are using the correct diesel pump, and if issues persist, consider using an alternative station if possible.
