🚗 Is Your Car Trying to Tell You Something? Understanding Common Brake Noises

Your brake system is one of the few systems on your vehicle that will actually warn you when something isn't right. Knowing what those sounds mean could save you money and also keep you safe!

🔊 Do you hear High-Pitched Squealing?
This is often caused by brake wear indicators letting you know your brake pads are getting low. They contact the rotor surface to make that noise in an effort to get your attention. Catching it early usually means replacing pads before damage occurs to the rest of your braking system.

⚙️ Do you hear Grinding?
If your brakes are grinding, something has typically gone wrong. This occurs when the brake pads completely wear out, allowing the metal brake pad backing material to contact the rotor. This can turn a simple brake job into a much more expensive repair and becomes a safety concern.

🎵 Do you hear Clicking or Clunking?
This usually indicates something is loose in the brake system, especially if the noise mainly occurs when braking. These noises can also indicate worn suspension components, or another issue that should be inspected.

🌧️ Do you hear Light Noise After Rain?
A little surface rust can develop overnight or after rain. If the sound disappears after a few stops, that's usually normal. If it continues, it's worth having checked.

🚨 Do you experience a Pulsation or Vibration While Braking?
Feeling a shake in the steering wheel or brake pedal can point to warped brake rotors and can often be a sign that something more concerning is going on. Be sure to have the brakes inspected if you experience this. It could be lifesaving!

What's the good news here? Not every brake noise means a major repair, but every unusual noise deserves attention a safety issue which keeps you and others around you safe on the road.

🔋 Is a Battery Service Really Worth It?

Many people think a vehicle's battery only has one job: starting the engine. While that was mostly true years ago, today's vehicles depend on the battery for much more.

Modern vehicles use dozens of computers to manage everything from engine performance and fuel economy to anti-lock brakes, airbags, backup cameras, and driver-assistance features. All of these systems rely on a stable electrical supply.

As a battery ages, it naturally loses capacity. Corrosion on the terminals or loose cable connections can also reduce the battery's ability to deliver consistent voltage. Even if your vehicle still starts, a weak battery may contribute to:
