This car was purchased in 2021 by an excited customer who had a bit of bad luck before he even got to drive it! The 1965 Corvette coupe, 365HP/AC, Goldwood Yellow, was on its way by transport to its new owner in New Zealand, and unfortunately was completely destroyed in a transport truck fire. (See video)

Thorpe’s Body and Corvette Shop, Inc., received the car in early 2022 for a complete restoration. The restoration was quite a challenge, but Tim and his team enjoy a good challenge! All fiberglass components had to be replaced, as well as the challenge of getting rid of the overwhelming smell of smoke.

The beautifully restored Corvette was completed in early March of this year. However, the patient owner had to wait until early this month to enjoy it as delivery to New Zealand took a couple more months. He received the car in early August, and couldn’t be happier. He even stated it was hard to believe it was even in a fire, much less destroyed by one!

The Bloomington Gold Show was quite successful this year! With 32 years of judging under his belt, Tim also enjoyed watching three cars that he had previously restored achieve the highest Bloomington Gold status.
The Lynndale blue 67 Coupe with white interior and 400 HP, was restored by Thorpe‘s Body & Corvette Shop twenty years ago. After a little refreshing, she was ready to show off again, and show off she did, bringing home the Gold for her new owner.
The red/red 68 Vette Convertible with 435 HP received a total restoration by Thorpe‘s Body & Corvette Shop one year ago and achieved the Gold award this year with flying colors.
Tim himself purchased the blue/blue 65 Convertible with 396 CI and 425 HP in 1988. After a complete restoration he sold the Corvette in 1991. After several owners, the current owner finally brought it to Bloomington where it received a much deserved Gold award.

This has been such a crazy year that I just want to share this story from last year’s Bloomington Gold again.  It was three years ago from last September that the owner of this beautiful car miraculously walked away from this horrible accident. It was such a joy meeting Bill and Nanette Britten-West and restoring this car to its proper glory. And last year at Bloomington, Bill took home the Gold!. Since then he has also won Chapter and Regional Top Flight awards for NCRS.. Gotta love happy endings!

Thorpe’s Body & Corvette Shop, Inc. worked nonstop to complete the Restoration on this 71 LS6 in a quick 100 days! Customer was invited in April to enter this LS6 454 in the prestigious Special Collection Show at the Bloomington Gold Corvette Show in Indianapolis this weekend . The team immediately went to work and worked nonstop To make sure this special car, one of only 188 of its kind made, was on display. Great job guys!

This 1966 Corvette convertible, 427 - 425 HP, blue/blue leather, went home today! Owner purchased the car in 1985 and recently brought it to us in boxes for complete restoration. Picked it up today and successfully drove it 50 miles home. Very happy customer as he plans on driving this beauty to his 50th class reunion. We think it’ll be a hit!

Thorpe's Body and Corvette Shop, Inc. has had the privilege of restoring this highly optioned 427 Big Block, 400 HP, 1969 C3 Corvette, black on black. Our team has worked hard for the past year, restoring this vehicle back to pristine, showroom condition.
The most difficult aspect of this restoration was locating a very unique bracket that connects the air conditioner with the carburetor. A highly optioned car such as this one, which came factory equipped with air conditioning, will always be a challenge to restore due to the various electronic components that require detailed precision to function properly. This 1969 is a true drivers car and will be featured as Thorpe's Car of the Month for May 2020!
