Why PDR Capacity Takes Years to Build
PDR can be taught in weeks. Developing a technician who can consistently deliver high-quality work at production speed takes much longer.
Industry training sources commonly place professional-level consistency on a timeline of roughly 1–2 years, while advanced work such as hail damage repair can take 2–3 years to develop. That is an important distinction: completing training and becoming a dependable production technician are not the same thing.
Technical competency is the foundation of PDR capacity. A skilled technician must be able to read damage correctly, choose the right repair approach, maintain quality, and repeat that result vehicle after vehicle.
But individual skill alone does not create scalable capacity.
During a major hail event, that expertise has to be connected to demand. Collision centers, insurers, OEMs, dealerships, fleets, and other automotive partners may all need PDR support at different times and in different locations.
This is where the PDR organization becomes essential. It connects industry demand with technical capability — through relationships, deployment, workflow, operating processes, quality standards, and quality control.
The technician brings the expertise. The organization makes sure that expertise is in the right place, at the right time, working within a system that allows it to perform consistently at scale.
That combination is what turns individual skill into real PDR capacity.
And neither part is built overnight.
