I feel as though I need to speak up and I hope it doesn't upset anyone, but I feel like a local situation is getting out of control about Greg's Auto Repair. We have been next door neighbors to the shop for 14 years and have an objective perspective that may help to shine light on the situation. I am going to list some facts that many of you do not know. I am actually not interested in an argument, I have a busy day, but I do feel like some things need to be clarified:
1. Greg's does NOT receive any proceeds from the towing. The towing company, Ernie's, is contracted by the NPD for all towing services of this type.
2. A cab company rents space from Greg's Auto in that lot and could not move their cars to do their job so they called the owner.
3. The owner called the NPD and asked them what he should do and was told 2 things: there is no legal requirement to post a no parking sign on private property and he has the right to have the cars towed, so he did.
4. He was out for lunch in Amherst when all of this transpired and had no idea why people were parking in his lot, so this is NOT about the march or his political beliefs (not supporting the kids), it was a business matter.
5. The parking situation was exacerbated by the dance performance at the high school which used up a lot of the parking there.
6. That being said, I do believe that it was an unfortunate situation for all involved. I understand that people are upset and angry, but this is turning into a witch hunt and I felt compelled to offer some objectivity and facts, not emotions.
7. If you are reading this and are my friend, anytime you need to park in my driveway, just give me a call.
8. At times, in the past, people have used the lot for overflow parking, however, the previous owner, in the last years, due to liability, discontinued allowing people to park there as well.
Let there be peace, people.
