Over a year talking systems, calibrations, and parts — so what does it actually look like when it all comes together?

We break down how a 2024 GMC Sierra's adaptive cruise control and lane centering really work: 7-8 modules (camera, radar, steering sensor, brake and transmission controllers, engine control, body control) all talking to each other. When the car ahead slows down, the camera sees it, the radar confirms it, and in a split second the throttle closes, the brakes engage, and the brake lights turn on.

This is why these systems working together matters. More videos on this coming soon.

Final part in our hail damage series: who's actually responsible for making sure it's repaired right?

In hail-prone areas, insurers often bring in third-party administrators to keep up with volume. Those teams are skilled at one thing — getting the dents out.

But hail damage can touch a lot more than dents. ADAS calibrations, one-time-use fasteners, proper removal and installation of related components — that's not always in a hail team's wheelhouse.

This isn't a life-or-death repair. It's okay to wait for a shop that looks at the complete picture, not just the dents.

Hail damage isn't just about making the dents disappear.

Most hail damage can be corrected with paintless dent repair — but not always. Large dents can stretch coatings to the point of microcracking, which is why I-CAR recommends checks like magnifiers and dye penetrant testing to confirm the finish wasn't compromised.

Damage close to a panel edge is a different story. The coating can split under that impact, creating a corrosion hotspot — and that requires conventional repair instead.

There's more to hail repair than meets the eye.

Ever wonder what airplanes and collision repair have in common? ✈️

In aviation, any event — turbulence, a bird strike, a hard landing — triggers a mandatory FAA inspection before that plane flies again. Not to assume damage, but to confirm it.

That's the same principle behind a post-collision safety inspection. The difference? Auto body doesn't have an FAA equivalent holding the standard.

Something to think about next time your car's been in an incident — the industry doesn't always require the checks that aviation does. We do them anyway.

"Why inspect what wasn't even damaged?" 🤔

We hear this one a lot on our post-repair safety inspections. Here's the answer:

The inspection isn't there to find damage. It's there to verify there ISN'T any.

✅ Airbags, seatbelts, sensors, mounting points — all checked
✅ Not because they were hit, but to confirm they're working exactly as they should
✅ Done to the manufacturer's exact standard, every time

We don't hand a vehicle back and hope it's right. We verify it — so you know it is.
