This is great news for Tesla owners.

Tesla has quietly added a remanufactured long-range battery pack for the Model 3 and Model Y, priced at $8,000. That’s a big drop from the roughly $14,500 cost of a brand-new unit, offering owners facing a replacement about 45% in savings. What makes it notable is that these figures sit in Tesla's public Electronic Parts Catalog, openly accessible rather than buried behind a dealer quote, which is not how most automakers handle major component pricing. For context, that $8,000 figure is competitive with what a new engine swap costs at many OEM dealerships, which reframes a number that sounds alarming into something closer to routine major repair territory. The bigger point is how rarely it comes up at all. A TeslaTracker analysis of 30,957 used Tesla listings found just 53 vehicles, about 0.17%, had lost more than 25% of their original range, and the average used Tesla still retains 90.2% of its rated capacity. In other words, this is a worst-case cost that the overwhelming majority of owners will never encounter, and knowing the ceiling makes the used market considerably less intimidating.
