Well gm says motor has to come out and it pays 15 hours just for the timing set. That doesn’t include oil pump and cam phasers. I’m doing it in car and will be well under the 15 hours.

When a maybe not so bad job turns into a much more in depth job. I put cam sensors on this a while back. ended up having the problem again. Checked sensors again one was busted. Turns out tone wheel on one of the cam phasers is broken. Also had a cross threaded coil on one valve cover. So it will also get a new valve cover and a new coil as well. Whole top end of motor had to come apart. Still have to pull the front of the motor apart as well as timing cover. Will get new timing set while I’m in there.

This customer hit a deer and busted an oil line without knowing and locked the motor up. This has been a pretty big job....

This customer hit a deer and busted an oil line without knowing and locked the motor up. This has been a pretty big job. Since the motor is locked up I couldn’t turn it over to get the torque converter bolts out, so it had to come out with the motor. The body also had to be lifted a few inches to get to some of the bellhousing bolts. I also had to drop the front differential out of it to gain enough room to pull the motor straight forward to disengage the converter. Was not enough room to pull the transmission and transfer case backwards. Should go back together easier then it came apart.

No wonder it had exhaust leaks. Four broken studs. Another shop worked on this truck a year or so ago for the same problem. My guess is at least a couple of thes studs were broke then. instead of fixing the real problem I belive they threw gaskets at it and sent it down the road. Yes broken studs are a pain to remove but Bandaid a problem and charging a customer an arm and a leg to do it is not the way to do things.

All broken studs are now out and the truck can go back together. Truck is getting some headers now.

Haven’t posted in a good long while. Been pretty busy with with lots of little small jobs. The Cummins swap got put on the back burner for a little while. Parts are starting to roll in again for it, updates soon. But this was a non-op three point. Checked fluid it was low and had moisture in it. So decided to change the hydraulic fluid and filters. While doing so on site this spring and needle fell out of the case. So loaded it up and brought it to the shop to split it. Pressure relief valve for the hydraulic lift pump exploded.

And it’s done, for now. Haven’t arc welded in forever but not to bad. Will most likely have to add some taller shackles ...

Started the flatbed install on my personal truck. The bed is off of a newer truck so the frame rails are wider then my trucks, that’s adding a little extra time to getting it to work. Got some channel bolted up to the truck and will sit the bed down onto it then weld it to the bed.
