Ralph Teetor lost his eyesight when he was just 5 years old. Years later, while riding with his lawyer, he got frustrated because the driver kept speeding up and slowing down while he talked.

That frustration led Teetor to develop a speed-control device that eventually became what we know today as cruise control. 🚗

🚗 Now THIS is some Iowa automotive history!

Before Fred and August Duesenberg became famous for building some of the most legendary cars in America, they helped design the Mason automobile right here in Des Moines.

And yep… that story about driving one up the Iowa State Capitol steps? That really happened. 😳

Here’s the Newton connection 👇

In 1910, Frederick Maytag bought a majority interest in the company, creating the Mason-Maytag Motor Company. Maytag eventually left the automobile business to focus on something Newton knows pretty well… washing machines. 😂

Happy Fun Fact Friday!

This 1966 Volvo 1800S racked up more than 3.2 MILLION miles on the odometer. 😳 That’s enough to circle the Earth about 120 times!

The owner, Irv Gordon, credited a lot of those miles to something pretty simple — regular maintenance and taking care of repairs along the way. 🔧

We’re guessing most of us aren’t shooting for 3 million 😂… but now we have to know:

The Cadillac Eldorado Brougham came with some pretty unusual luxury extras—including a perfume atomizer in the glovebox.

Because apparently smelling good was part of the driving experience. 😂
