If you’re building an M8 engine, you need to KNOW the oil pan is clean, not hope.
The stock M8 baffling traps sludge and contamination you can’t see and can’t reach, and that contamination can come loose and destroy a fresh build.

Darkhorse solved it.

Did you know...

Milwaukee 8 platform exhaust lifter bores can wear quickly due to greater pushrod angles and being the last lifters to receive oil after the intake lifters and piston oiler jets. With more aggressive cam combinations and higher valve spring rates the service life of the lifter bore can be diminished even faster!

You DO NOT have to throw away the OEM Harley-Davidson crankcases if they are out of spec or damaged from lifter failure. Darkhorse Motor Co has a number of different processes to resolve lifter bore issues. From simply honing lifter bores to correct their proper tolerances with oversized lifters to a full complement sleeve to repair the entire surface and properly reset tolerances.

Our Man O-War Motor products billet Ampco 45 Sleeves have greater lubricity than the parent material and are considerably more wear resistant than any other product on the market. The process and parts retail for less than $600 (not including lifters of choice) in our never-ending quest to build a better crankcase assembly for our dealers and customers.

Crankcase pressure and vacuum play a massive role in how your engine oils, breathes, and survives at high RPM. Inside every V‑Twin, the pistons act like an air pump—creating pulses of pressure and vacuum in the crankcase.

If that positive pressure isn’t controlled, you can get:
• Poor ring seal
• Inconsistent scavenging
• Increased windage losses
• Heat and parasitic drag due to wet sumping
• Power loss due to excessive crankcase pressure

That’s why performance based LARGE displacement motors should always run precision‑machined reed valves. The seal on the back of an M8 oil pump is an important part of making sure your M8 does not wet sump, but that seal can only do so much in terms of evacuating crankcase pressure AND sealing the sump cavity from unwanted oil distribution.

We at Darkhorse Motor Co and performance engine builders like T-Man Performance machine this feature in‑house to control crankcase pressures at high RPM. The result is stronger ring seal and more efficient power delivery—exactly what matters when you’re building a big inch bike for high RPM.
