Now THIS is a vehicle-buying story! 😂

Thomas traveled all the way from Wasilla, Alaska, to buy our 2024 GMC Sierra AT4!

🚙 These things are like a box of chocolates… you never know what you're gonna get! 😂

We bought this super clean 4-wheel-drive F-150 Crew Cab on Friday from a super cool guy in Norman, Oklahoma.

On the surface, everything looked great. And honestly, these 4WD pickup trucks under $15K are tough to find, so we were excited about this one.

After Labor Day weekend, we had a friend ready to buy it for $14,000.

Then came the cold start… 😳

RATTLE. RATTLE. RATTLE.

And just like that, things weren't quite as easy as they seemed.

Here's the bottom line: you can do inspections, drive the vehicle, check everything you can think of — but when you're looking at one of these older EcoBoost F-150s, you REALLY need to hear it cold start.

If you can't cold start it?

Don't buy it.

We're learning right along with everybody else, and sometimes you get one that surprises you. That's part of buying and selling used vehicles.

So before you buy that older EcoBoost F-150, let it sit, get it cold, and listen to that first start.

🚨 DON’T SHOP FOR THE CAR FIRST — SHOP FOR THE LOAN FIRST! 💰🚗

Here’s a little car-buying education based on a story a customer recently shared with us.

A guy from Kansas came to SnapAutos to look at one of our vehicles, and while he was here, he told us about a previous vehicle purchase he had made at a dealership.

He said he had put $13,000 cash down, but he wasn't pre-approved through his local bank or credit union.

According to him, the dealership gave him an interest rate about 4 percentage points higher than what his local credit union would have offered him. He said that, when everything was said and done, he ultimately paid about $4,000 more than the vehicle was worth.

Now, we weren't involved in that transaction, and we don't know all the details of his previous purchase. We're simply sharing the story he told us because it makes a great point about shopping for financing BEFORE you shop for the vehicle.

Before you start looking for your next car or truck:

✅ Contact your local bank or credit union
✅ Get pre-approved
✅ Know your interest rate
✅ Know your loan term
✅ Know how much you can borrow

THEN go shop for the vehicle.

And if you decide to finance through the dealership, that's completely fine! At least you'll have your pre-approved terms from your own lender to compare against what the dealership offers.

Shop for the loan first. Then shop for the car.
