PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCMENT: THE CANANDAIGUA POLICE DEPARTMENT IS UNVEILING NEW FULLY ELECTRIC PATROL VEHICLES.
The Canandaigua Police Department has received our first fully electric vehicles that will be used for patrol duties in the near future. The vehicles are the first of their kind in our local area and our department is proud to test the feasibility and durability of such vehicles in the vigorous patrol environment. The vehicles were funded by a New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) Clean Energy Grant.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E will be assigned to officers in the Traffic Enforcement Unit. This vehicle is a compact crossover SUV that is nimbler than our conventional patrol vehicles and can maneuver easier in congested areas and traffic. This patrol assignment does not require officers to transport as much duty gear, making it ideal for this assignment.
The Ford F150 Lighting will be assigned to officers in the Evidence and Crime Scene Technicians Unit. This vehicle has the capabilities to transport a large variety of evidence collection tools and gear needed for this assignment, and it can power equipment without the need for a generator or alternative electric supply. It will also be used to tow and provide electricity for our Child Safety Seat Technician and Traffic Enforcement trailers during special events.
Thank you to NYSPSEL in Newark, NY who researched, designed and upfitted the emergency equipment in the vehicles for this special project.
