The first "Cinquecento" (500 cubic capacity), called the "Topolino" (little mouse) was the smallest car (m. 3.2 x 1.3 m; m3. 569) designed in 1933 by the engineer Giacosa for FIAT to meet the need to offer an economic car with 4 seats for Italian middle-income families (at the time it cost 5,000 Italian lire and the basic salary of an employee was around 600 Italian lire).
It was produced until the beginning of the Second World War and production resumed after its end until 1956. It was made in many versions including the "Cabriolet" (the convertible) and the "Giardinetta/Giardiniera" (gardener), which had wooden doors.
Still today it is often used as a car for the bride on wedding day
