“Η Ακρόπολη συνιστά όχι μόνο ένα μνημείο, αλλά και τη μήτρα της μνημειακής αρχιτεκτονικής, τουλάχιστον για ένα τμήμα του δυτικού πολιτισμού. Κτήρια ποικίλων μεγεθών και χρήσεων έχουν υιοθετήσει τα μορφολογικά χαρακτηριστικά του Παρθενώνα για περισσότερο από έναν αιώνα, με αποτέλεσμα να βρισκόμαστε περικυκλωμένοι από κτήρια τα οποία έχουν προσαρμόσει την κλίμακα και τη μορφολογία ενός αρχαίου ναού σε ποικίλες κλίμακες και χρήσεις εμπορικών αλλά και οικιστικών έργων.
Όσο τα μνημεία, τα οποία έχουν εμπνευστεί από τον Παρθενώνα, πολλαπλασιάζονται στον κόσμο, τόσο πολλαπλασιάζεται και ο συμβολισμός που ο Παρθενώνας δέχεται πίσω από αυτά, πολλαπλασιάζοντας έτσι τον εαυτόν μέσα από το άλλο.”

“The Acropolis concerns not only a symbol and a monument, but also the cradle of monumental architecture, at least for a part of Western civilization. Buildings of various sizes and uses have adopted the Parthenon’s morphological features for more than a century, and, as a result, we find ourselves surrounded by buildings that have adjusted the scale and morphology of an ancient temple on various scales of commercial and residential developments.
As the Parthenon-inspired monuments are multiplied in the world, so is the amount of symbolism that the Parthenon receives back from them, thus multiplying itself through others.”
