Thermal stress crack characteristics that building managers confuse for vandalism: the crack originates at the glass edge, travels perpendicular to the edge initially, then curves across the pane in an S or curved pattern with no impact point at the origin. It appears overnight or on particularly intense sun days. No rock, no tool, no impact caused it. The glass simply failed under uneven thermal expansion. Glass doesn't need an impact in order to crack. When the July sun heats the center of a pane to 150°F while the shaded edges stay cold, that stress differential can crack it from the inside, with zero impact and zero warning.
