These bushings were only a couple years old, bolts were also new. The torque link bolts were also installed wrong

Side braces with plastic bushings installed that broke causing excessive looseness. I mean, do you really need a well maintained gear?

So back in July, I posted "this old aerostar". Well, the saga continues, but we're almost done with her... I think. We found a gear strut that was chipping internally, bent side brace bolts from plastic bushings being installed, bushings were broken, a wheel that was falling off because it wasn't together correctly, a cabin controller that was connected to the dimmer switch, it would only work with lights on bright, pretty severe corrosion around door, and the list goes on and on.

Be careful when picking an avionics shop for installs, they are not all the same. They quote a job, then, because they tried to be "competitive " on price, they start to cut corners. Also, it always takes longer than they expect, understand that that is part of the process. This plane came in for annual after a complete avionics package installed elsewhere. Engine wiring against turbos, hydraulic pressure hose being held away from controls with one tyrap, chafed wires, servo on controls, ground wires not hooked up, etc. One of the main reasons to go with a primary engine monitor is to remove fuel and oil from the cabin, most avionics companies do not understand this.

Ground pressurization tests are a great way to find leaks. Unfortunately, it's a great way to find leaks... we had to pull this customers windshield, both diverter valves, and various other leaks. These are items you can't find during a normal inspection. Consider a pressurization test as part of pre-purchase inspection. Notice the expansion of the fuselage in some pictures, one of the reasons I'm not a fan of the 5.5psi upgrade, too much pressure on airframe.

Today on "this old aerostar ". New customer came in for a quick fix, never seen the aircraft before. He asked me to look over the engines quickly. After about 5 minutes, he asked jokingly if I'd fly it. I told him no, he then asked why, I started listing the reasons. Needless to say, on booked an airline flight home, and we started fixing the 150+ airworthy discrepancies. Due to the amount, we felt it was best to remove both engines as it would actually take less time and we could do a better job easier. It may be hard to tell from pictures, but some of the items are massive oil leaks, burnt wiring, broken turbo mounts, oil supply hose airworthiness directive from 1988 was never done, 3 hoses broke in half when removing them, engine monitor transducers laying on turbos, bent waste gates, incorrect bearings on controls, corrosion so bad rivet heads were corroded off, broken baffles, mag up against air pump, chasing hoses, wires, and mounts, loose fuel injectors and torn injector o-rings, and the list goes on...

Finally flew back N4LN. There's a long story about this plane, the short version is we literally replaced everything possible with new, did every modification available, and installed all garmin products available at the time. We spent years of blood, sweat, and years working through the project. We put three sets of engines on the plane, different interiors, etc. It has been a long road, an emotional road. It is dedicated to the owners daughter in law whom talked him into buying the plane just days before she passed due to cancer. Everything is new firewall forward except for front exhaust which was not available. Through this journey there were a number of hardships, at multiple times, we thought of scrapping the plane. But, through it all, I have gained a true friend, mentor, and a person I truly appreciate like a father. These planes are not just another piece of machinery, rather, a way of life, a passion, and dreams come true. It has been such an emotional roller coaster, that after about an hour and a half flying it back from Alabama, I relaxed enough and tears came to my eyes.
