Did you know that Dexter Axle recommends repacking your wheel bearings every 12 months or 12,000 miles? Wheels bearing, brake and suspension maintenance is not only a good practice, it could save your life and the lives of other travelers. A lot of people think if it tows it goes. This is true. Sometimes it goes to the campground sometimes it goes in the ditch, on a flatbed, or to the scrap yard. Maintenance is key. It has to be done. Jack

We recently did a floor repair on an older Cougar travel trailer. This style of floor is great for light weight trailers but is notorious for failure without proper trailer maintenance. RVs should be self inspected every month and professionally inspected annually.

Solar panels mounted in huge aluminum frame, bolted together, hinged and added actuators to raise and lower. While the roof was off we ran the wiring for added solar and wiring to power actuators. Manual transfer switch added to switch over from shore power to battery power to power outlets and microwave from 3000 watt inverter. Remote switch ran into coach to turn inverter on and off. This was quite the chore and had a lot of head scratches getting this done. We mocked up the build on the ground to get angle and mounting where it would work best once on the roof.

So through the years RV manufacturers haven’t always made the best decisions on many things RV related. This is one I see quite often and some preventative maintenance can save you down the road. Mounting screws on the outside of the seals where water sits is never a good thing. We remove the screws, clean area, pump hole full of silicone, replace screw and silicone over screw. This keeps water from seeping around the screws and into the wood floor decking. Give yours a look and take the step to prevent damage.
