Sometimes those words are a little misleading. 😂
On this Toyota Land Cruiser 4.7L, the starter lives down in the valley of the engine. To reach it, we have to remove the upper plenum/intake components and coolant crossover components.
The starter itself may be small.
Getting TO the starter? That’s another story.
This is a great example of why repair labor isn't always about how long it takes to replace the actual part—sometimes most of the job is safely getting to it and putting everything back together correctly.

Yes…seriously.
This oil filter was installed incorrectly, and instead of being properly aligned and seated, it got CHEWED UP.
What you're looking at is what was left of the filter when we opened it up.
An oil filter has one very important job: keep contaminants out of the oil circulating through your engine. When the filter is destroyed like this, it can't do that job properly—and it raises some serious concerns about what may have been circulating through the engine and whether adequate oil flow was maintained.
We're now determining whether this mistake caused additional engine damage.
Sometimes it isn't the part that fails. It's how the part was installed.
Oil changes may seem simple, but doing them correctly matters. 🔧

Some fine metallic material on a transmission magnet can be normal depending on mileage and wear.
Chunks and significant metal debris are not.
When we drop a transmission pan, we're not just changing fluid and a filter. We're looking for clues about what's happening inside the transmission.

Transmission fluid has a very important job: lubricating, cooling and protecting the components inside your transmission. Add water to the mix and you can end up with corrosion, poor lubrication and serious internal damage.
This is why we pay attention to what comes OUT of your vehicle—not just what we put into it.

This is why the right tool matters.
Someone previously used a wire wheel on this aluminum transmission housing.
The problem? Aluminum is soft. The abrasive wheel damaged the sealing surface enough that it can interfere with the gasket's ability to seal properly.
A leak isn't always caused by a “bad gasket.”
Sometimes the real problem is what happened the LAST time someone was in there.
Proper repair means figuring out the cause—not just throwing another gasket at it.

This one was definitely ready for retirement. 😂

This vehicle was NOT safe to drive.
The center bolts were broken and portions of the leaf spring pack were missing/damaged.
Your leaf springs don't just make the ride more comfortable. They're part of the suspension system supporting and locating the axle.
A failure this severe can affect vehicle stability and control.

They’re not very good at acting like a normal repair shop.

You know the usual routine: drop your car off, wonder if anyone has looked at it, eventually get a mysterious bill, and leave questioning whether you actually needed half of it?

Yeah… May Automotive has a problem with that.

They’ll take pictures of your car and show you what’s wrong. Then they’ll actually explain it to you. Which is incredibly inconvenient if you were hoping to remain blissfully unaware that your brakes are hanging on by the automotive equivalent of thoughts and prayers.

And watch out for Josh.

That man will explain why something failed. You might accidentally learn something about your own vehicle. Worse, he may tell you that something doesn't need to be fixed yet, completely ruining the opportunity to panic-buy unnecessary repairs.

They’ve also been around since 1959, so apparently this isn't some little phase they're going through.

They’re family owned. Small-town people. They know their customers. They live in the same community as the people whose cars they work on—which means if they screw you over, there’s a decent chance they’ll have to see you at the grocery store, the rodeo, a school event, or somewhere else for the rest of their lives.

Need your vehicle picked up or dropped off around Nephi, Mona, or Levan? Unfortunately, they do that too.
