Just a quick recap of the SIRA Karting double header at Whiteland Raceway Park this past weekend.
Gage had been struggling with his Mini Cadet kart, mostly due to his rapid growth spurt that had him out growing the kart. Balance was way off....so we decided, that he was old enough to move up to KA Junior. So we built him a full size kart and strapped on a box stock KA.
Got up to Whiteland and were setting up and truly lost track of time and he missed the only practice for Race #1....so, with zero practice on an all new to him kart setup and a used set of tires., we went right into Quals. SIRA used a new to everyone track layouts for both days, so there's that complication to add to it.
He ended up taking to it very well indeed and qualified 3rd.
I've already covered the fact that a Hoosier hurricane blew thru and with a slow drying track, we passed on running the Saturday final.
Sunday was a beautiful day, so we got back to work.
Good run up to the finals had Gage starting P2, behind the Senior KA racers.
First lap of the finals was red flagged on L1 due to one of the worst karting wrecks I've seen in a while. A few karts got together in the Daytona corner at full speed and after the injured racer was attended to, three karts went to the dumpster.
Race was restarted and shortened by a few laps to make up time.
Gage had a great race and finished in P2. Not too bad for his first ever weekend in a KA JR kart.
