There’s a lot of cool cars Japan got that never made it to the US *cough* Skyline GT-Rs *coughcough*
But one of the others we unfortunately missed out on was the “99 spec” RX-7’s.
For those who don’t know, the FD RX-7 was produced in Japan from 1991 to 2002, but sadly only the 1993-1995 model years made it to US shores.
Mazda continuously made minor improvements to the platform over the years, but arguably the most notable changes appeared in 1999.
In this year the RX-7 got updated turbos, helping bump the horsepower up to “276.” They also received upgraded aero including a new front fascia and adjustable rear wing. Additionally, a new color “Innocent Blue Mica” was added as an option, which this beauty we currently have for sale just so happens to be finished in.
These improvements (plus other minor changes throughout the years) make the 1999+ model years much more desirable than the earlier ones. And as these later models are passing the 25 year mark and becoming legal for import, prices are quickly rising.
