Stay home off icy roads

Several tractor trailer trucks were stuck Monday on U.S. Highway 231 South (Shelbyville Highway) and one jackknifed on Interstate 24 between Buchanan and the Coffee County line, a sheriff’s supervisor said.

Wrecker drivers are moving trucks blocking lanes of travel, said Sgt. Nick Coble.

Drivers will face icy conditions if they drive this morning on state highways and back roads throughout the county.

“It’s solid ice everywhere, Lascassas Highway, John Bragg Highway, anywhere outside the cities,” Coble said.

If you have to drive, maintain a slow speed and don’t make any sudden stops, he advised.

“It would be best if you just stayed home,” Coble said.

Deputy Brad Harwell was driving on ice-covered Manson Pike and Blackman Road.

“Some spots are treacherous,” Harwell said. “You’ve got to be careful. There are icy spots everywhere.”
