Let me give some pointers to some DIYers out there. I completely understand we are all trying to save money when and where we can.
I have worked on so many different patrol vehicles over about a 30 year span, I have seen many instances of questionable wiring practices, some were down right scary. I do not recommend twisting wire strands together and just throw some tape on them. Also, when you run through a drill hole (or access point) through the firewall of a vehicle, always use a grommet of some kind, always use electrical tape or heat shrink the wiring, along with using wire loom. Seal the access point thoroughly through the vehicle’s firewall with some silicone. This keeps water from entering the cab of the vehicle and getting under the vehicle flooring and possibly into any electrical components. Furthermore, this keeps the wiring from chafing against the sharp steel edges of said access point and causing a much bigger problem.
I’m here to help if any of y’all need anything.
Be safe out there!
