Beckley Motor Speedway
A very special place...
With Bullsgap closing, or just the premature post of it being sold or not..
Im forced to be reminded, as if I would ever forget....
Community support is a must.. this also reminds me of the local Beckley skating rink... I remember alot of people upset and complaining that it closed, with good reason... not many people actually went and supported it.
It wasn't until it closed that people were in a huge uproar. The very same people that hadn't been there in 20 or more years.
This just might be a wake up call that we don't miss something until it's gone.
Dirt Behind The Scenes actually did a post explaining what is happening at some, not all racetracks. He is correct, the work and expense of keeping these places open is insane. I've never worked harder my whole life. Lol. I have to laugh, because if I really took time and thought about it.... well, like Scarlett O'Hara said in the movie "Gone with the Wind,"
"I can't worry about that today, I'll worry about that tomorrow."
Racetracks have a continuing battle...
How do we get people in the stands..
Trust me when I say, track owners, promoters have lost thousands of hours, days, and years thinking about this..
You need to advertise, or this or that.
We have done it all. Still today, I talk to people that have no idea that there is a racetrack in Beckley.
Thats so hard to believe.. because we make alot of noise on Saturday nights..
There are a hundred racecars in town.
We get huge car counts at Beckley
for local races. This was the 67th year of racing at Beckley Motor Speedway š
67 years. Incredible.
Car count isn't the problem. We have some of the best, loyal, kind, loving fans a track could ask for.
Tracks need more of them. There it is.
I said it. That's where it needs to improve to help with the cost.
Supporting your local racetrack and businesses is a must. Unfortunately, everything costs money. Thats a fact.
Bullsgap closing is very sad news. Lots of dreams and memories were born there for thousands of people.
Chin up! Let's do better for the 2027 season at Beckley Motor Speedway. Let's make the 68th a great one.
With God's grace we will be ready.
Love you all, thank you for listening.
