🚨 BUYING AN LSV IN NORTH CAROLINA? KNOW BEFORE YOU BUY! 🚨
An LSV (Low-Speed Vehicle) is a motor vehicle — it isn’t simply a golf cart.
Before purchasing an LSV, make sure you know who you’re buying from.
North Carolina law requires motor vehicle dealers and motor vehicle sales representatives to be properly licensed. A dealer operating multiple established salesrooms or places of business must also meet the applicable licensing requirements for those locations. (North Carolina General Assembly)
BEFORE YOU BUY, ASK:
✅ Is this location a licensed NC motor vehicle dealership?
Dealer licenses are required to identify the dealer’s established salesrooms and must be conspicuously displayed at the place of business. (North Carolina General Assembly)
✅ Is the person selling you the LSV properly authorized?
North Carolina generally requires motor vehicle sales representatives to be licensed. Dealers are also required to maintain and display a current list of their licensed salespeople. State law does provide limited circumstances allowing a salesperson applicant to work under direct supervision while an application is pending. (North Carolina General Assembly)
✅ Is the dealership properly bonded?
North Carolina currently requires a motor vehicle dealer surety bond of $50,000 for the first established salesroom and $25,000 for each additional established salesroom. (North Carolina General Assembly)
⚠️ JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE SELLS GOLF CARTS DOESN’T AUTOMATICALLY MEAN THEY’RE AUTHORIZED TO SELL MOTOR VEHICLES.
Buying an LSV through an improperly licensed operation can expose you to unnecessary problems involving ownership documents, title paperwork and registration.
Protect your investment. Know who you’re buying from.
🏁 Buy from a properly licensed North Carolina motor vehicle dealer.
