Yes - spark plugs still need to be changed at the manufacturer specified intervals [or even sooner in Vermont if they stretch it out too long] or it will cause costly drivability problems

AND it’s important to get the right spark plug/ even though there are a bunch of choices - it’s best to get the spark plug that was put in the engine when first assembled.

Auto craftsmen will be open again for business Thursday 7/13/2023

UPDATED: Thursday 7/13/23 = we are open for business! We had only a little damage and feel so lucky!

The schedule is a mess- but we should be able to catch up in a week or so.

Tuesday 7/11/23 = All roads that lead to the shop are closed right now. I did text a neighbor and he says our little neighborhood did OK. So I'm encouraged that the shop is well.... I just need to be patient and wait till the roads are open so I can get to it and check it out myself.

I'm suspecting that it might not be till the end of the week or next week until we are back up and running. I'll let you know once I know.

Our poor poor Vermont - it's tragic and hard to grasp the devastation around our state.

Be well and I'll post more once I get to the shop and figure out how soon the shop is ready to open and the team can get back to work.

Written by a friends shop in Michigan - so true!

If you think a good technician is expensive try a bad one.

First time Jetta customer was in with a check engine light on and hesitation. He took it to a local garage who didn’t get it right. Next stop was Pxx B### where he spent several hundred dollars to have his spark plugs replaced. The plugs they sold him may be suitable for a lawn mower but certainly not a German car. Also he was told the plugs would fix it because it “threw a code for cylinder 4 spark plug”. It didn’t so he searched for help and found me.

Ughhhh! 🤦‍♂️ First of all there is no such thing as a bad spark plug code. A faulty cylinder yes but nothing to pin point a spark plug. Secondly it drives me mad when I hear or read “it threw a code”. Cars do not throw codes. A scan tool used correctly can be used to identify and read diagnostic trouble codes. Semantics? Maybe but it drives me crazy.

I repaired the car following a visual inspection, test drive and a computer scan. The spark plugs, ignition wires and the faulty ignition coil was replaced.

Has your car had its required maintenance done? Do you have more than an oil change done when you take it in for service? The recommended replacement period for these spark plus is 40,000 miles. You may be inclined to drive it until there’s a problem but in the long run it will most likely cost you more money. Had these spark plugs been replaced at the recommended mileage this car may never have come in today. I was at least the third person to try and fix it. He found me on the internet and liked what others have said.

Take care or your car. Open up the maintenance book that’s in your glove compartment and familiarize yourself with what is recommended by the factory. It’s important stuff and these machines need more than just oil changes. Oil changes are whole other subject. Your car probably takes different oil than your neighbors car. The days of having a quart of oil added at the gas station are long gone. Oh it’s still possible but your chances of having the correct oil for your car added like this is slim.
