Sept. 3, 1935 - The first automobile to exceed 300 mph, set by Sir Malcolm Campbell, British racing motorist and journalist in his "Blue Bird", at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. He averaged 301.337 mph (484.955 km/h) in two passes. This was his final land speed record - he broke nine land speed records between 1924 and 1935.
